whats best ? water or soil for clones? fluorescent or halide lighting? keeping distance from halide seems to work for me so far... there in water with root starter... this will work, but i hear that its better to use soil and fluoresent... am I ok ? dose anyone have an opinion ? if i switch to soil should i re-cut and re-dip in clonex and put in soil? or just stick'em in .... or am I fine? there far enough from the halide that it seems ok to me... is this going to work too?

ive never done soil

done DWC/bubbler and compared to straight rockwool
with and without rooting solution
under t5 lights and under HPS and in the dark

what has worked best for me... cutting with or without rooting solution (which made no difference in speed or quality of roots) and putting into rockwool and covered with high humidity

the straight rockwool worked faster for me than a bubbler with hygrozyme in it... but both were nearly same roots, just had slightly more in the rockwool test batch

and my clones seemed to root best in darkness....

i did many tests and comparisons and suggest the same for you...

hope this kinda helps

I have had HUGE success with soil and 90w LED UFOs. I'd say I have about a 80% success rate on cuttings. I've only taken one round of cuttings under them; but, I took 54 clones and 40+ survived and rooted, and grew in about 2 weeks. I use plastic cups 3/4 full of soil, juicey roots from AN on the stem, and just put it in the soil about 1" from the bottom of the cup. I leave a little overflow of water in the cup, it keep the cutting alive longer if the roots take a while to develop.

hi ya bud , cool test tips !! ok, one thing is...in the dark? do you really mean zero light, all dark(how long before you get enough roots, in darkness?)? could you be specific on this, really curious ? thanks for sharring your exp. btw, do you have the rock wool in a tray with water? is the dome enough to create the humidity or do you need heat (ie heating pad) underneath ? question city ...sorry, I appreciate any info !

i just took a few more clones tonight trying these differences out again

i use a dome
http://www.igrowhydro.com/detail.aspx?ID=484

and use a tray
http://www.igrowhydro.com/detail.aspx?ID=2036

i place the dome on top of my t5 that is an 8 bulb and 4' long
it stays right around 84* and i wrap the whole dome in a thick black plastic bag but dont tie it shut, just to block out light and help hold in moisture

i do this for 2 days usually until they start to fall over slightly, and then i put them under the t5 and into 18/6 lights

i know it sounds stupid and some people will say im wrong, but it works for me

ive done comparisons and for the strains i grow, this helped me get a good clone % rate
