Cloned flowers doing better than from seed?

So this is like the third time or so I've noticed this happen - grow an unknown seed, clone it, and then the clone does way better than the one from seed. In this most recent case, the flowers appear to be a good week or more ahead of where they were from seed, this is the first time I've cloned it. Could it just be that I'm letting it veg longer? What else might cause this? Or do cloned girls just naturally get a head start somehow? I've only noticed it with bag seed, so maybe it has something to do with old seeds? Thanks.

Usually the vigor is in the first run plant, only you know your veg times

Yep, that makes sense then - Definitely the case, pre-flowers were everywhere. Perhaps I'm flowering too early from seed possibly, although I usually veg about five weeks, but I do top usually... My last run was a little fluffy, so I'm hoping these clones are a little more dense.

Once the leaves go from opposite each other to alternating that’s a sure indication that she has gone from juvenile growth to mature growth and is ready to flower.
Old seeds may be harder to germinate but The age of the seeds doesn’t change the genetics. As for fluffy buds, it could be genetics or it could also be light intensity and quality related.

yep. exactly as merlin said. alternating nodes vs opposite nodes. its really easy to see once you get the hang of it. for me it can take up to 2 months from seed before a seedling shows alternating node structure, whereas a clone will have it immediately. if you put a plant under 12/12 that isnt sexually mature it will spend a couple weeks getting mature before it starts flowering.

Nothing changes the genetic makeup of a seed short of nuclear radiation. Oh and death.

Learned something new today! I never know that about alternating nodes... So if you put a plant into flower too early, besides taking the extra time to start flowering, is it also possible that the flowers will never reach the maturity they would have if vegged longer till maturity? Certainly seems to be the case so far with these clones... As in you never reach full potential...

Probably sacrificing some yield but it’s a shorter veg so less electricity. Probably comes out in the wash. I doubt quality would be effected it would just take longer.

Yeah that makes sense. I can already tell these are going to turn out a lot denser than last time... Quality is just fine with the fluffy buds...
