Clones without mothers

So lets see if I can explain this as good as it sounds in my head.

Basically I don't have the room to house dedicated mothers nor do I really want to so this is my idea.

I start my grow, lets say 12 plants, from seeds. Just before I transition the lights to 12/12 I take a few clones from the best females and get them going for my next crop. At harvest the clones are then planted. Then I grow that crop and just before inducing flowering I take a few clones from the best females, etc...etc...

You follow? Is that feasible? Reasonable? Pass the sniff test? Etc...

This is what I am going to do...I dont see why it wouldnt work..I dont want mothers just cloning from clones

It's what I do - Been doing it for years now.
I started with one clone a buddy gave me like 8 years ago. I've been cutting generation after generation since.

The first go-round you would have to take clones from all the plants. because you would'nt know the sex of them to take from only the "Best Females".
then once they sex you just get rid of those clones that came from males. After that they would always be female, unless they herm from stress. Am i right?

why not just keep a small mother plant just keep trimming it I have one thats over 3 years old and is no bigger than 8 inches tall when I need clone I just let it grow then trim it

When I put my plant into flower, there are always a number of branches that just aren't going to make it to the light and therefore be productive buds. I normally would trim those out anyway - instead they go on to be the next generation.
Whatever works for you...

Exactly what I did

Sounds like a plan to me. However there's no gurantee that the clones you take will grow to be as good as the mothers they came from.
There is also much debate on the subject of reduced potency from growing a clone of a clone of a clone ect. I've never tried this method so can't say for sure if potency is reduced.

On the other hand, if you re-veg a plant after harvest it will increase in potency year after year. A plant on it's 6th harvest will be considerably more potent than the first year round. Happy Gardening!

How can you tell the females before going 12/12? I thought they had to start flowering to check the sex.

Well I'd be using feminized seeds and there is some risk for the first go around but as long as I track which clones from which plant and watch the sex of the parent then I don't foresee a problem.

I do this as well. A bit crowded until you know you are keeping a cut

Often plant will show sex just do to maturity...if not you keep a labeled clone until they sex.

I agree with smkeking, I have read many articles stating that the farther you get away from the original pheno (cloning a clone again and again) the more potency you lose. Also, re-vegging is a good method, but like cloning, there is no promise you will be able to re-veg the plant, and then it's lost.

I normally clone if I am growing some ladies from seed, after harvest, I choose the phenos I like best and grow them, or perhaps make a mother of one.

I know what you mean about space, I don't have the space I need to keep all the Mom's I would like to. I am considering doing some grafting. Can you imagine 5 or more strains on one plant? Nice Vid Moma, UG has some good advanced growing vids. All this talk of cloning and splicing plants is bringing out the mad scientist in me.

This system will work and a clone is an exact copy of the plant the cutting was taken from. It is impossible to lose genetics if you clone. With that being said you can stress the crap out of a clone and it may not grow the same or produce the same but it is an exact "genetic" copy. Just baby them and you will be fine. good luck to ya!!
