Cloning and Low Humidity

Just a quick bit of info for anyone who may care -----

Winter in this part of Michigan includes relative humidity readings down into the 20% range during the colder months.
With a perpetual grow putting out 2-3 plants a week I am continuously cloning. When the humidity plunged I experienced
a falloff in my cloning success rate. When things are clicking I can usually count on close to 100% rooting of my clones.
I usually keep the dome vents closed the first couple of days then crack them wider as the clones get older. By closing the dome
vents for the entire period my success rate is once again back where it should be. Plus I'm keeping a solid 1/2 of water on the dome floor
at all times. Works for me.

Good luck, BigSteve.

The water on the floor doesn't keep things too wet? Great idea about keeping the vents closed longer. I've been dealing with low humidity the last few months. Next time I clone i'll remember this . Thanks plus rep!

I use jiffy pellets and put the pellet in a solo cup with drain holes. That cup gets nested inside another
solo cup with no drain holes. Every 3 days I seperate the 2 cups and set the holey cup in the dome
floor water for 3-5 seconds. I can see the pellet absorb water and want to see wetness halfway up the pellet.
Being able to see how moist the media is is the reason I switched from rockwool to jiffy pellets.

Also, my domes set on seedling heat mats (wrapped in a towel) and that keeps the dome water warmish.
As scientists we learn that most all biological processes are speeded up with the use of heat. That's why grow
rooms were originally called hot houses, eh?

I live where the humidity is normally less than 10%. I find aeroponic cloning works best for low humidity.

Great idea putting the pellets in solo cups. Helps with oversaturating the babies. Nice arsenal of plants you've got going. You must spend a few hours in the growroom.

Just use the dome and crack it one or twice a day for venting. The Heating mats really do help (especially in winter) you should look into gettin one. Only about 30 dollars but wel worth it if your cloning or starting from seed. Water them if they need it and they will grow. Just relax kick back an smoke a joint and you will see roots in less than a week.

Yeah, I'm a retired OG with a houseful of plants, 3 guns and a dog. That's Michigan shit-kicker for Nirvana.

BigSteve.

My fault. I didn't see that you had a seedling mat already. I thought that was a different person posting. Anyway you seem like you know your shit big Steve. Keep the big buds comin bro!
