Cloning autoflowering strains?

I was just curious if you could clone any autoflowering strains or would you have to grow them from seed each time? I am really getting interested in trying to order some seeds to my state and would prefer to start with a reliable strain that requires minimal effort for my first order. Thanks for any feedback.

Cool, thats what i thought. I read somewhere that you cannot clone autoflowering strains, but i got the impression that it was just a marketing ploy to get you to buy more seeds from them. Im guessing you could clone them just like you would any other strain or is there a few extra steps that need to be taken?

You can clone it, but the lifecycle is the same. From seed 8 weeks. There is no way to hold those in veg, correct? So, the best you can do is have a bunch of really small plants flowering. Or am I missing something about the "auto-flower"?

No, you are not missing a thing. yes, you can clone it...practically anything can be cloned (cuttings).

However, autos don't switch back and forth between veg and flower. They are a one way street.....If you take a side branch, it will hiccup to make roots and then finish with the mother.

That sounds about right. There is no way to hold auto flowers in veg mode. I was just wondering if its possible to gather some clones from them before they start to flower on you? or else it seems like you would have to constantly buy seeds, which seems like a lot of effort and a bit sketchy. The idea of auto-flowering strains seems perfect for supplying only two people with year round greens using only one grow box. I have been trying to gather all the possible info i can find on AF strains but most of the info is just related to seed banks and pricing.

Even if you cloned in veg state, they would keep on growing to finish. You haven't really gained any time. It's like having a self destruct button on them. If you can bypass it, then it isn't an auto strain.

The thing to do is HOPE for a male  and cross it with your best gal. Once you get a seed bank up, you could have a perpetual 8 week harvest machine.

So your saying the clones would still flower with the rest of the original plants they were cut from, but they would be shorter and less yield, or they would continue to grow and flower for a predetermined time even after the original plants were harvested? if that makes any sense...

Excellent! Thank you so much for your help. You have cleared up a lot of questions regarding the auto-flowers! Im still really new to the forum and i dont quite know what +rep means, but i gather that its a good thing. so if it is, then +rep to you!

Yep, there is no way to have a mother plant.

I thought I was on the right track with AF. I have never played with them, but the idea is sound. Is the AF dominant? Could you bread a male into a female AF and still have that gene?

Or, don't harvest one of the plants and see if it will hermie late in life and use that pollen to make Fem. AF.

yeah since there is no way to keep the plants in veg it seems that you would loose a week or 2 of growth while they root....... best to make some seeds
