Cloning Concerns/questions?

My cuts haven't started rooting yet and it's been 1 1/2 weeks now. I took these cuts from a not so healthy mama meaning that it wasn't getting taken care of as should be.. watered, proper ventilation, etc. These cut are not dying they're standing strong but not green as I think they should be. I have them in my dome i'm using root riot as I've always done before, watering them with Clonex mix with good pH water.

My concern/ question is.. is it possible or a such thing as a not so healthy plant equals not so healthy cuts or am I just worried about nothing and just need to give them more time?

A lot of it depends on the strain. I have one strain that takes 14+ days to even begin showing signs of roots, and many others that start rooting after just 3-5 days.

Knowing that they came from a hurting plant may have an effect, but I'd just be patient and see what happens.

Cloning from a deficient plant will indeed increase the length of time it takes for cuttings to shoot roots.

Usually people take the dome off after a week or so and let the clones get used to the fresh air. Maybe the humidity it keeping them too moist and not wanting to grow roots.

I am in the same boat with mine. Using a Octocloner and strain is fruity cronic juice.

The mother is growing strong, but clones are not showing roots after 9 days. Used root plus gel and hormex solution. Going to give it about another week and then clean bucket use different gel/solution and cuttings.

Hope it's a time thing.

Leave them alone.

Keep on keeping on. Leave them alone.

Yes. Healthier plants that are vigorously growing will typically clone faster. Just leave yours alone and let them pull through. They may lose leaves. That's ok. Just be patient.

I've taken the dome off but only for about a min or so. And thanks guys I will definitely be patient.

But thanks again.

As for cloning cool, low light, less nitrogen in the clones and they'll shoot roots eventually or they will die. You just have to wait 'em out LOL

I never use a humidity dome and I use an aerocloner because up here in the Mojave with 10% humidity the root cubes and rockwell cubes I used required to many waterings a day to stay moist. I don't want the clones to feed. I want them to starve a bit to encourage the hormonal change required to create roots.

Thanks for both pieces of information.

I have rooted and grown hundreds of clones over the years. About the soonest I've seen roots on any clone is maybe 8-9 days in the dome. So give her some more time. Make sure though you have the basics covered --
* Is the clone's leaves kept wet?
* Do you have water standing in the dome to increase humidity?
* Clone moms should be at least 5 weeks themselves to give up viable cuttings.
* Do you keep a light going 24/7 in the dome room?
* Try cracking the vents more.

Good luck, BigSteve.

Just answering you question
  • No
  • Yes just on the sides
  • Yes she older than 5 weeks but as mentioned wasn't being taking care of properly.
  • No I do 18/6
  • Will do and take dome of every other day for a min or so.
