Cloning during harvest

Ok, I know this topic may have been beat to death, but the search function isn't the most user friendly. I'm also slightly technologically retarded.

Here's the deal, my partner is very unorganized and never keeps track of which plants come from which mothers. He will get a bunch of clones, mother some, flower some, but he won't label them. It's really annoying to me, because I'm very organized when it comes to that stuff. Anyway, we were harvesting one of his trays today and we happened to find these really amazing couple of plants in the mix. The bud and the SMELL especially is just my ideal bud. It's like magic in my nostrils when I smell this bud. I'm really in love with it. The problem is he doesn't think he mothered any of these, and he doesn't even know what it's called. It's obviously some cut of OG, but it has this extra little lemony/skunky stank to it that is just unique, but unbelievably amazing (in my opinion, it's subjective of course). So, while we were harvesting, we decided to give cloning it a shot. I took a couple of branches with relatively small nugs on it and did my normal cloning routine as I would any other cutting. Right now it's sitting in my dome under 24 hours of light. A couple of questions about this - has anyone here done this successfully? If so, what did you do differently aside from the regular cloning process? Did you cut the buds off the new cutting or leave them on? Any help is greatly appreciated as I would love to keep this strain around for a long time.

Also, I know the best option would be to reveg the entire plant. However, I left and he's still there trimming and he may have chopped it completely down already. I'm not sure, I sent him a message to leave some small buds on the bottom and stick it in the veg room, I hope he gets it in time!

Ego,
I've clones in flower. Just follow usual protocols. It will take longer and if you get yellowing...you can foliar feed as needed. I left the little bud on it...

Depends on how late in harvest

I have twice successfully cloned with buds showing

Here's my current clones. Second pic was taken same day as separated (12/25). Plants were understandably droopy. Very nice now. I need to add a bit more 5000K to get the leafs to lift

Well if you are partners why don't you take it upon yourself to label them?

Just wonderin'
The way it was is that we both do things our own way meaning we basically split the room in half and I do my thing and he does his. We help each other out on waterings, putting up nets, lights, electrical shit, etc...but the growing side of it we pretty much do separately. It's kind of cool that way because it's like doing side by sides with different nute regimens/techniques and we can see what works better. But, you're right, just last week we took cuts from his plants he just put in the flower room, I helped him label each cut to correspond to each plant it came from so we should have everything sorted out now :)

Thanks for the input everyone. I'm talking about taking clones actually on chop day, when the buds are done and ready to be trimmed. We'll see if it works, I think it might work, but I'm sure it will take quite a while. The good thing is he did get my message and he stuck the plant back in the veg room with a few lower branches still intact. I'll get some pictures of it up later tonight. Since there still are buds on the revegging plant, will it start popping some bananas? I'm guessing it will...

That late causes issues as the stems are hardened. Shaving ~ 1" above the cut will give you a chance. You will need to trim any buds, above the leafs. Put them in a bubbler with < 100ppm, replace water every 5 days and hopefully in 2-3 weeks you will have roots

Ive done this a few times. Its takes a few weeks, but it will work. Once the clone has completely reversed, I cut off everything, and leave only the new growth.

I do not keep mother plants, so I always takes clones from flowering plants, done this for years. Along the way, I did a lot of experimentation as to the best way to do it, so I can tell you from experience, don't get your hopes up with clones taken in late flowering, especially at harvest. I found the longer I waited into flowering, the lower my success rate was. I now take clones one week in, with basically 100% clone success every time. But waiting longer, say 3, 4, 5 weeks, or more, reduced that success rate drastically, eventually to zero. What I found was that even though I could get a cutting taken in late flowering to root (DWC, neoprenes, about 72F, 200ppm or less) the plant up top would not know what to do, and would just sit there, not growing at all. I've experimented with the clone nutes, ph, lighting time, and intensity, from 400, 250w MHs to what I use now, a 4 bulb T5HO fixture. 24hrs on seems to work to more quickly cause them to revert back to veg, but with ony one week in, it doesn't matter, 18 is fine. Same with intensity, with some of the clones that just sat there, I was able to get them to "snap out of it" and explode under a 400w sun pulse 6.8k (if I remember correctly) MH at 24hrs, but for the most part, once they were like that, it was only a matter of time before I'd have to throw them out. Also, the ones taken 3, 4, 5 weeks in, they would grow all weird for a while at first before forming normal leaves. When I say "weird", I mean it, they were not even recognizable as cannabis, no joke.
