Cloning for first time. Wilting

I’ve started cloning for first time I cut them 6 days ago with sterile tools at a 45 degree angle put them in water then dipped into rooting gel and into light soil that isn’t too wet. I’ve got the light in the picture on 18-6 and it’s only like 2000 lux. I keep the temp around 22 degrees and Rh at around 80% with the vent open for airflow but after a few days they started wilting and now seem like they are guna die. Anyone advise my what I’m doing wrong?

Ive tried that method and water cup method zero success several attempts keeping everything appropriate.

Then realized how beneficial it is to know how to clone and gave it one last shot. Root riot plugs worked twice now and bought an aerocloner, about to use it in few weeks. Supposed to work even better.

Just my two cents because I almost gave up on cloning, I highly suggest trying if this dont work out.

I tried it once on two cuttings and succeeded, tried again with like 8 and only got 2. They say to take extra cuttings anyway just for that. The aerocloners I hear with an aquarium heater roots clones in just few days.

Just somewhere to start thats cheap, doing just what youre doing but with root riot plugs. The first time was better, not so sure why a lost cuttings last time. It was 100% better than any method so far though.

I think its more important to have the root site smothered with oxygen rich water because aerocloners dont need a dome.

The root riot plugs are coco, very oxygen rich and almost impossible to overwater, just keep wet so thats probably what worked.

I did put bags over the cuttings believing in stopping the leafs from transpiring at first but quickly hardening off when seeing roots by poking holes in bag. Can do that with a dome too.

But again, aero cloners dont need dome so idk. I think it helped prevent wilting but keeping it closed with air stagnant can lead to dampening off.

People clone with out domes all the time so not as important. All this is hard to do in other medias lacking the oxygen/water ratios.

I've been cloning plants for 20+ years now. I had an aero at one point, just added more steps imo. Aerocloner is great if you are doing dwc, but I'm an organic soil kind of guy. Root riot plugs are the way to go. Last clone run I did 24, 2 didn't make it. But that pheno is really finicky.

Adding a heating matt will improve your clone game substantially as well. Just keep the plugs moist, and a little water in the tray for the mat to heat up. Start cracking those vents around day 4, they should be fully open after a week. If not, the grow tips will die off.17050063964024352010231188992968.jpg1705006435662203475077981171112.jpg

I like my bubble cloner but I don't use it too often these days, I use root pouches or pots of coco most often, I don't mind rooting them in a jug water occasionally.

I'd need to check for exact dates but I think it's about a week sitting in 1" of water

The plants the clones come from is 75% of it, they need to be healthy and growing with vigour.

I can't emphise enough sodden wet to prevent wilting.
It's not just the wilting theres also the recovery time involved and it's stalled over the duration.

Spray them and shut the vent.
24h light

Personally I just use perlite .

But thousands of growers can't be wrong with root riot ect

Man I dunno whether to get an aero one or use root riot. Does aero give more chance of success along with faster rooting than anything else ?

They both work awesome. With the aero there is a bit more clean up. With root riot, you have to keep buying the plugs. Aero pump can fail, but a clone tray can Crack and leak everywhere. Once its set up, aeoro is pretty much set and forget. Root riots you have to mist and check twice a day. All depends on what you want to deal with.

From where you are at now, I don't think they will be saved but here is what you need to do:
Dont spray the clones, spray the entire plastic dome from within and shut the vents off.
Make sure the inside of the dome reach 90+ rh
If the soil is dry add some water to it.
Keep the light at a fair distance and 24/7
Keep temp at 24-26 around them
Manage these conditions and they will bounce back in no time if they are still alive.

The best advice is to not spray the clones, when you spray them you actually make it worse, as they draw water from the humidity in the air, not the actual water droplets on them.
