Cloning from an outdoor mother

I recently picked up a couple Blowfish clones with the intent of letting them veg for a couple of weeks outdoors. Put them in 7gal pots in the second week of July with a dank mix and put them outside in the garden thinking they would stay in a veg state until around Sept 1.

Well they appear to be flowering now. Just showing the first signs of pistols. Very healthy stout plants though.

Is it to late to take a couple of clones from these potted plants and put the new clones back into a veg state after rooting via 24hr indoor setup, or am I better off just buying some new veg clones??? I'd like to preserve a mother for next season as well as get my indoor setup going.

Any advice is appreciated.

Clone away man! I just did the exact same thing as I want to continue to grow out Golden Goat. You can clone about three weeks in and still establish roots. Mutates them a bit though. I was getting three blade fan leaves for a little bit. It outgrew it though.

I also read I'll need to veg these new clones (from outdoor pots estimated to be flowering for two weeks) at 24hrs for at least 8 weeks before they can be considered suitable mother(s) for cloning into a flowering room. Is this just to get them to size or is there another reason??

clones are alerady mature enough to flower. the only reason to you may want to veg them for a while is to esablish a nice set of roots, however you can just flower them.

Since I am cloning outdoor plants and bringing them in (generally a no-no I think), should I consider doing a (garden friendly/non-toxic) anti-fungal and/or anti-pest on the outdoor mother (tops) 24 hours or so before I take the clones as a preventative measure? My room and cloning set-up is all sterilized and dialed and I would hate to bring in pests.

Any issues with this impeding the cloning process??

It would be much easier to get another clone instead versus going to the trouble of cloning the one you have, which is already young and will produce a lot less bud due to the stress. Plants should be able to clone fine with pre-flowers, but not fully flowering buds

i've also been cloning from outdoor to indoor, it's been going well but you don't want to take too many clones from the mother if you still plan on using the outdoor for bud too!

Getting some good clones and going totally hydro/indoor is my priority. I plan to root and vet these for a while to establish 1 solid indoor mother. I'll take whatever the outdoor mothers will give wrt bud. They are sacrificial. I think they will still do well. They are stout little bushy suckers and I'm only gonna grab 2 or so clones from the best tops of each.

i just did this from 2 outdoor plants that had just barely begun to show pistils

the clones seem to be okay, they took a little bit longer than normal to "get going" but are now kicking ass 3 weeks later

That sounds like a good idea, avoids the hassle of getting clones or seeds(which would probably be best to start with). If you're doing hydro cloning I just saw a sick ass video on Youtube from Tokin Daily. The easiest way i've seen to clone so far, no cloning gel, no hydroton, no net pots and no trays. All it takes is a good sized container with a lid, a regular pump and air stones. And it fits 100+ clones without a problem www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPuCAK9w8aM. good luck
