Cloning light

I normally clone under a 600W but ive been reading this is highly unnecessary and that I can save some money in my pocket by switching to a warming mat and a lower light, now I normally use hps but is L.E.D ok?

I was thinking of getting one of the links below if someone could offer me a suggestion:

60W

40W

30W

Led will work, I'd spring for the 60 if I went led. Most I've heard of go for a 2 bulb T5 flourescent in conjunction with the warming mat. You can drop that almost on top of the humidity dome. The flourescent has a nice soft light that isnt overly intense as leds can be quite BRIGHT.

IS the brightness going to have any effect on the success of cloning?

Yes. Clones don't want much light at all. I personally prefer fluorescent for cloning since it's a little milder but you can do it with LEDs or HID too. What I've found is the least amount of light the better for clones, while still maintaining enough light to keep them in vegging mode. I just do 24/0 for clones, but try to keep the light mild.

That's the same as a 4 bulb T5. Unnecessary wattage pull. A plain jane 2 bulb T5 would give you room to work under if your rooting several clones, if just a couple the CFL suggestion padawanwarrior mentioned would suffice.

I actually agree with the indirect light. I had clones that wouldnt root till I sat em on the kitchen counter well away from any light source. I still got 1 in the hum dome in the veg area that still hasn't popped roots after a month. Yet its standing nicely.
