i want to clone my plants. i want to start at the top and just cut down the main stem at each node. i'll get 8 clones each. they will already have 2 fan leaves and 2 side brances that are working on their 2nd node. what are my chances of success using this method. i figure if it works they will have a head start on the vegging stage...will the top cut develop into new growth?? thank you in advance

you can clone that way. there is even a bit in the GrowFAQ about doing that.

after the roots develop the cuttings will act like a normally topped plant.

if a clone acts like a normally topped plant. if when into veg a bit and you top it again. would that mean there would be 4x more growths than an untopped plant?

er, just to be clear, i am picturing you taking linear cuttings, not just branches... meaning that the clones have no top growth... if i am correct in that image you will be starting with what is a topped plant... meaning it will grow two top colas... if you top each of those as well you will get 4 top colas... do it again and you will have 8

i hope i have clarified rather than confused :p

i think linear would be correct.. i'd top the plant just above the second node for clone one and repeat until the plant was gone. so i would 18/6 them after they root and give them another 10 weeks then flower. i have one that is already growing hairs everywhere so i think i'll keep it in flower. this is my first time and am really learning alot!! thank you RUI members!!!!!!!!!!!!!! rep to everybody

Harley- cut through each node at a 45 deg. angle. Alternate the direction of the cut on the way down, /

Leave a small growth or leaf at the TOP of each cut, insert the bottom of cut in your medium (Rapid Rooters my pref.) Note: the BOTTOM of the cut is also the TOP of the next cut, so you will leave any growth for that as you go.
