is there any drawbacks to cloning off a clone? had someone tell me you shouldnt do it but never explained why i shouldnt haha. so i figured id ask on here. and im not talking about a small clone im talking about a clone thats deffinately big enough to take sufficient sized clones off it.

Why not? Ever head of Cindy99 or Purple Kush or Green Crack?? All are clone only strains, they seem to be doing ok right?

I don't keep momma's I have a clone box, veg box and flower room, my veg box is too small for 6 mothers, but just right for 6 2 month vegged plants, What I do is take 2/3 cuttings off each than veg from 1 - 2 weeks depending on the flower room. I have 2 plants that finish in 55 days 2 in 60 and 2 70 day (give or take). As I move the 55 days into drying, I move two plants up, it works.

If you are a legal grower (as am I) make sure to stay within legal limits, if that means you can only take 1 clone off each plant so be it (I take a few just to ensure I get 1 healthy clone).

I was told the same thing a long time ago... But he explained. You won't see any adverse affects right away, but if you take a clone , then clone that clone , veg , clone, and so on... After a while you weaken the genetics. It will sometimes revert to moms or dads traits, others it will start to herm all the time. But It could be a couple of years before you would see anything. If you find that perfect pheno make her a mom...

C99 is not and never was a clone only strain.

The theory is that genetics weakens over many generations of clones. In general I would say this is true, but it takes a long time. The fact is that genetics in a mother can mutate as well. There is really no one right answer. I have heard (though I can't confirm) that a tissue culture will regenerate the lost vigor in a generations old clone.

this is also what i have heard, same goes for mothers most say you should start new mothers every year.

Genetic degradation is a myth. Just make sure you're continually using only the best clones from the best pheno of each grow.

"Cloning" is actually a misnomer, though that is the typical term. You are not taking genetic material and recreating a plant, you are simply rerooting another portion of the same original plant. So this idea of "genetic drift" is simply a myth.

Man, I clone before I begin flowering, as well as sometimes when I bottom dress during flowering, and never have a problem, other than the occaisional clone not making it, but overall, they mostly survive the transition to 24/0 and either continue to veg, or revert to veg, and take root... I tell everyone to clone away... U really cant go wrong... However, like mentioned above, I have seen cloned genetic lines become weaker and more prone to hermie-over a really long time, and numerous "generations" down the line, though... I have some original landrace Panama Red genetics that I am cloning as we speak, in the hopes to keep this bad biotch churnin and burnin... It has some really lovely phenotypes, of the few seeds I started, and of 3, I got 2 females, so I am a happy farmer right about now... But, the differences in this equitorial sativa are so vast,as compared to the traits of some of my other seed stock, wherein I have several different equitorial sativas, hybrids, and indicas as well... It's so nice to have lots of genetics and the ability to combine them and see the surprises that lay in store...

I have been taking clones of clones with no problems. Like many, I clone a week or two before starting the flower cycle. By the time the harvest has come, I have another round ready to start.

Only seeds available for C99 are not true they are BX, where I come from it's a clone only!!!
