Cloning question...

I have researched this for the answer and have yet to come across the "Why".

You can clone from any plant so why keep a mother plant instead of just cloning off your current vegging plants? I have read research where recloning does NOT lower yields nor THC. So why keep a mother plant?

A clone is a clone...so it's always an exact replica

Certain types of setups work best with mother plants while others work best repeatedly taking cuttings. SOG is an example of where maintaining mothers works best. It all depends on your individual circumstances. :peace:

this is how i do mine. i keepno mother just clone from a clone from a clone. my yield have been the same if not better every time. never less then the last harvest.:bigjoint:
 
Okay thanks for clarifying...I just couldn't wrap my head around the Mother Plant benefits...seemed more of a pain in the ass to me. Thanks for your answers

thats right. hell i all ready fight mites why whouldi want the extra stress over tryingto keep a mother plant alive.

I keep 15 mother plants going at all times. I have to, I have a 160 plant perpetual grow flower room. Every two to three weeks forty plants are harvested and forty new rooted clones go right back in. I have a 40 an 80 site aero cloner, and they have to stay full constantly...:leaf:

Like somebody posted before,it depends on the situation.
I started my grow with one sweet tooth seed,so obviously I had to grow it out to be a mother plant.
Then after I took cuttings and it was time to flower I saved one of the cuttings to become the new mother and flowered the old mother with the rest.That saved a little bit of space in the veg room.
I like to veg my plants for a rather short amount of time and by the time I put them into flower they may not have enough branches for me to take cuttings from them.
On top of that,if you do take cuttings from some plants rights before flowering them.It forces you to veg these cuttings for however long it takes the others to flower(at least 2 months).And thats way longer than I ever veg,unless growing out a mother plant.

Also,over time plants can mutate.So,yes a clone is genetically identical to it's mother,but that doesnt mean that it's not different than the mother was 20 years ago.

Maybe they mutate into a super potent, quick flowering, super yielding plant. Mutations can work both ways. :hump:
 
That would be correct,although that combination of mutations would be pretty unlikely.

Winning the lottery is "unlikely" but it still happens. Significant mutagenic damage is "unlikely" as well (unless they are exposed to radiation or something). I've heard rumors of clone lines going on for years and years but most people don't keep the same strain going for more than a couple of years at the most anyway. :weed:

Doesn't matter. However, if you are growing in hydro you want to keep a mom in soil in case you lose your crop to root rot or something.

You can bud the mom as long as you have a clean cutting ready to replace her. It's just a fail safe to not lose a prized strain.
 
A lot of Elite Clones have been around for much longer than a couple years.
Over a long amount of time(lets say 20 years) would it be that unlikely for a plant to mutate is some way?I honestly don't know,but I wouldn't be surprised at all if it happened.
