cloning questions O.o

Hi everyone. Im sad to say im stumped on cloning. failed twice alreadylol. im using rockwool cubes, roottech, i have a humidity dome, i just dont see what the hell is going on.
am i suppose to keep the cubes soaked? i always keep them moist but not soaked. i have 32 watt cfl about 12 inches above it. spray them about 4 -5 times a day. 20/4 light cylce.
im beginning to think im cutting it wrong. i cut them at a 45 degree angle, but i didnt peel any skin off the bottom, just cut them and dipped them in the root tech, and i gently slid then about 3/4 - 1 inch into the cube.
can some plzzz give me some pointers. im going to try again tomorrow after the bug man makes his mandatory spray -.-. i never thought i would have so much trouble with this. now it has made me about a month off schedule =(. Anyways any tips are greatly appreciated. thnx again!

put the rockwool cubes on a little bed of perlite. let the perlite wick the water to the cube. even if you think the cube isn't soaked, it probably is. if it's in a dome, there is no place for the humidity to go. essentially, the rockwool is absorbing that moisture too. get it out of the water and they should root. i'm doing the same thing as you (not using the rootech even though i have it), i just have mine on some perlite. hope it helps.

I would use the cup of water technique just use a air stone to aerate the water so you don't have to change it daily!

The key to cloning in water is the temp if you have a aquarium heater this is perfect set it to 76 degree's and have the air slightly cooler like 70 degree's and you will see roots forming in 5 days also will have great success!

Hey Smokermore, welcome aboard RUI!

iampolluted has some great advice. I have never been able to get a rockwool cube to work for cloning, every single cutting has died. I used bubblers for years then ***developed*** a simple, resilient, fool proof biosphere single cutting cloner and I've never lost a cutting. Empty strawberry cup from the grocery store, pro mix, distilled water, Root Stim. I've forgotten to put root stim on some batches and have gotten 100% clones from cuttings.

***development*** process: Mix pro mix with distilled water; put pro mix in cup; put root stim on cutting; put cutting in cup; put top on cup.

I'm putting together a pictorial this week, tonight or tomorrow, but I have some pics and info up now. Post #10 of the grow lab thread linked below. If you have any questions or want to try the single cutting cloners please post in that thread so I can keep all of he FAQs together.

Thanks.

thnx for the replies!

I took my old clones, recut them and the bottom sides, redipped in roottech, drenched the rockwool cubes. hopefully this will work. im planing on taking more clones tomorrow too, but this will be my last try cause i need to start flowering this beast haha. thnx again

I was shown a 100% fool proof method of cloning with rockwool last night, I'm going to run some clones today to try it. Very similar to the biospere cloners above, but for rockwool

.

1. Cut 600 ml pop bottle in half, poke holes in the bottom of the water
2. Prepare rockwool cutting as usual
3. Put cutting in bottle and slide top down for seal
4. Put to side of light, not directly under. Floros are good, weaker light, 18/6.
5. once or twice a day dunk the pop bottle into a container of water
6. Elevate the bottle to drain (not sitting in water)
7. Repeat until you have roots.

The rockwool will always retain the perfect amount of water, by dunking and draining we create the perfect environment for cloning. The bottle top keeps the water in, biosphere. I'm going to run a few clones this way tonight, I'll post pics in the Grow Lab thread linked below.
