Cloning?

Can I clone in jus plain tap water? I don’t have any cloning gel or powder. I read you can clone with aloe vera or raw organic honey? Has anyone tried these methods? I have 4 cuttings from my gorilla glue. I cut the stem at an angle and did that “Shaving thing” whatever it’s called where you lightly scratch at where you made the cut with a razor. I have the bottom stems of the cuttings floating in water with the leaves hanging over the mouth of the water bottle. I also cut the tips off the leaves. What can I do to have success at this? Any advice would be appreciated!

Tbh if the cuts are healthy they can root in almost anything. Saturation of dissolved oxygen is what you want to make it happen. I'm not sure about scraping, that's a new one for me, sounds unnecessary. What are you using to clone?

Piggybacking on another thread, but at what point DO you clone? My plants are at 2wks now, and I just topped. Getting some big fan leaves already.

I waited too long to clone this time and consequently have 3 @ 10-12" budding plants with single blade leafs. But, they are growing

I’m just using water to clone. I took my cuts right before I flipped my plants into flower. The cuts are about 4-5 inches long. I seen on some YouTube videos of guys using a razor blade or their scissors and lightly scraping off the first layer of skin from the stem where they made the cut. They said it would help the cuts root faster?

It does gives the roots more surface area to work with and less to break through if that make sense - they could take a long while to take in just water I use rock wool cubes and strain pendant can some times have roots in 6-8 days
I have noticed that the wetter the rock wool the longer they take to root if the wool is just slightly damp roots grow quicker good luck ☮

The only time I scrape the stems is when the plants are older mothers that have been around for a while and the stems have become harder/more woody. When the plants are younger and the stems are softer/greener, there’s really no need to scrape the stem. Roots will be able to grow out of the stem easily.

I would also suggest changing the water in the bottle every couple/few days to be safe, if it’s just standing water in a water bottle. The plant will eventually use up all the oxygen in the water if there’s no air stone or pumps adding oxygen, etc.

Clones will root in plain water though, no issue. It may take a few extra days vs using a rooting hormone or cloning solution, but they should definitely root.

Also, If you have any bloom nutrient (something with no nitrogen, like 0-5-4 for ex.), you can add it in at 1/4 strength (no more than 5ml/gallon). It works just as well as any regular cloning solution (that doesn’t have rooting hormones in it).

Could I dip my clone in clone x gel then just stick it into medium ? It is it best to use the water method ?

Check my journal. Pictured step by step. Works with water, honey, aloe, powder, liquid and gel. Best wishes. Click the link below this message.

That's actually my preferred method. Straight into soil, but it takes a little longer than some other methods. I love the Root Riots too though.

I think it's best to try all the methods and see what you prefer. Cloning is really pretty easy, so don't stress, but take multiple cuts in case some don't root.

Most important thing is leave them alone after you put in medium, don’t need a lot of light don’t let them dry out, couple weeks you will have root ,when I cut mine I put in darkness 12-24 hr in glass of water before I dip in anything then do as you will it all works, I always use cheap powder ,they may lay down a little fall over we’ll say don’t touch you’ll be fine

Yeah I unintentionally snapped my plant in half and stuck the top in water like 24 hours ot so ago. It sprung back to life, I just got this gel in a kit I bought. Was tossing the idea around about dipping it and planting it.

Hell ya. You just did your first topping, lol. I usually clone my toppings even if I don't need more clones. You're on the right path.

I'm not going to lie, I was so heartbroken at first when I saw what I did lol. Just old enough to show her sex too. Adapt and overcome I guess however it looks like the 4 or possible even more branches underneath the snap might have turned into main stems . It looks that way anyways .
