As VICTORYGARDEN said you need a way to measure current co2 levels and induce the regulator when required.
Our ops have been going with "Lanterns, flames, hibachis"Lanterns, flames, hibachis all seem like a good idea until your house burns down. Use a special CO2 generator if you don't want to worry. CO2 tanks work well for small confined areas, but for bigger areas a generator is the way to go. Once you have the regulator hooked up tyou need to connect it all to a release solenoid, just time the solenoid to go off at the correct intervals to create a 1600PPM CO2 environment. A proper CO2 meter isn't cheap.
You said it was impractical, you should have made your disclaimer earlier. Our ops have been going with "Lanterns, flames, hibachis"
for 21 years without a single incident. If it's installed properly there's no danger. That's why I say, it's not for everyone.
