Coast of Maine products

Here in mass we're a litte behind the times but finally things are headed in the right direction!
im planning on a 4000w indoor organic soil grow using subcool's soil mix in smarties until I learn more about organics ( and gain experience). Sub uses roots organic as a base soil and it worked pretty good for me, but the coast of Maine products are readily available and I wanted to know if anyone has any experience with using their products. I've looked online and there seems to be a lot of compost and custom soil mixes that are available for mmj in Maine.

i like my coast of main i mix some of that brown fox farm frog stuff and then perlite + vermiculite. if i were to use this on subs recipe though i'd research whats in his base soil and whats in the main soil and then figure the difference.

Coast of Maine stuff Rocks, its the base for my soil.

fwiw, I have been using FF products for a few years now. I use Ocean Forest mixed with ProMix for soil, and the whole line of FF nutes. Anyway, I decided to try some Roots Organic soil for a change a few months ago. I did a side-by-side with several examples each of Roots, FFOF, and ProMix. I was able to do a couple strains in various combinations of soil. It looks like the plants grown in Roots and Roots mixed with ProMix are just a bit bigger, maybe 20% or so in yield.

This was just one test and I plan to repeat it. I am impressed though.

Isn't FF a peat based mix? Roots uses coco as a base. In my experience, coco is a much better medium for cannabis than peat.

I lobsta compost, and worm castings. Currently mixed with Promix, and a variety of amendments including Alfalfa, Kelp meal, neem, and some other organic fertilizers. I have it posted over at Grasscity, I will try to cut and post later

Soil notes:
CF=7 to 7 1/2 gallons = 1 & 1/2 buckets

2/3 promix
1/3 compost/worm poo

Fertilizer mix (use 2 to 3 cups per CF):

added 1 cup of the following
Dehydrated Alfalfa Pellets
Espoma Bone Meal 4-12-0
Espoma Garden-tone 3-4-4
Espoma Tomato-tone 3-4-6
Espoma Rock Phosphate 0-3-0
Espoma Greensand 0-0-0.1
Espoma Garden Gypsum
Add 1/2 Cup of the following
Sun Leaves Peruvian Seabird Guano 12-11-2
Sun Leaves Jamaican Bat Guano 1-10-1
Sun Leaves Indonesian Bat Guano 0.5-13-0.2
Sun Leaves Mexican Bat Guano 1 -1-1

This all went into a bucket mixed together and applied to base mix at a rate of 2 cups per CF.

Rock dust mix (use 3 to 4 cups per CF):
Azomite
Liming agent mix (use 1 cup per CF, do not need to use with Promix):
2 parts Calcium Carbonate
1 part Dolomite Lime
1 part Gypsum

Was your mix 50-50 with the OF and Promix? Did you add dolomite or any other amendments? I have a bunch of ProMix to use up. I was thinking of mixing it with the FFOF and FFHF I have. I was also going to mix it with Coast of Maine Penobscot blend. I have a bad habit of over doing my dolomite.

Well, I don't measure it but it ends up being 60/40 ProMix usually. For small pots I usually use just the OF, although I have used HF before. Note that there are two HF products: potting soil and soil amendment. The main point of both is mycorhyzzae I believe, and the ProMix has that. If the ProMix is more than a couple years old the myco is probably inert however. There should be an expiration date on anything that has myco in it.

To be honest, I am not very precise about my grow medium. I just mix together whatever I have at the time. I will probably take heat on this, but I don't think it matters a whole lot. As long as you are using good stuff (not dirt from outdoors, not cheap crap or MiracleGro, etc) it should be fine. I have even used plain ProMix on occasion, without noticeable difference. What matters is what you put into the soil (nutes) after potting, again as long as you start with decent medium.

Do you add anything else to your mix? Are you still using the Roots organic? Thanks tet1953. I was actually thinking of using the HF Soil Conditioner at some point. I just found it locally.

I don't use anything consistently, except maybe the OF/ProMix combo. I've bought a few bags of Roots, HF, and other things along the way. I have done side by side comparisons of identical strains in various combinations of soil. My point is, I don't think it matters as long as the medium is decent. The nutes native to the soil when you put it in the pot are used up in a couple weeks and then it depends on what you're feeding them.
Hey, I am no expert. Only been growing a few years. This is certainly not advice, just my own observations.

I like black gold potting soil....just enough ewc to feed seeds and young clones with just straight water, I add some garden lime and that's all....

How much lime are you adding? I like reading your posts mdanforth.

I tried super soil for the first time this year. It is VICS recipe, and although only in veg stage, i'm impressed with the growth and vigor of the plants.

I use a 1/2 cup in my 7 gallon nursery pots.....

Here is a tip. Coast of Maine EWC are $14-15 a bag. Black Gold are only $7 a bag. Both are 2 gallon bags.

i have been using the COM products....great stuff.....the great thing about it ..it uses crab meal....lobster meal...ground Mussel shells..which load the soils with Chitoson....they have so many products....thier castings are great..they use seaweed an other vegatable products to compost in the worm farm....I have used many other soils like FF.. roots....pro mix.....and I like the COM lots better..seems the plants grow so healthy..i feed with Organic teas.....and also the Epsoma soil is very good also....the organic mix....they are worth a try....

I use 25 percent ffof 25 percent perlite 25 percent sun leaves chunky coco 25 percent sun leaves fine coco and like tet said its what you put into it I just brew teas for it at different stages of growth the idea with amended soil or super soil is you just add mostly water saves time but I like using teas in an almost plain base so I can feed as needed in tea mixes cause all strains grow different and feed different

Ps I also feed a lot cause it dried quickly but more feedings can generate fast growth
