You can go with 8 cxb3590 36v 5000ºk db @1400mA on 2 hlg-185-1400b...b to be able to dim from 10% to 100% which is useful for vegg...of course you could go for 16 cxb3590 the same on 2 hlg-185-700b for a better light spread and more efficiency but it will be about 400$ more... (1100$)

Best place to buy dimmer?

Can multiple drivers be wired to one dimmer?

there are literally thousands of potentiometers that will work as a dimmer, thats like asking 'what is the best doorknob'

Roger that. I didn't know if they were all created equal or not.

Do I need one for each driver, or can I wire one to multiple drivers?

I've him-hawed around enough. I am placing my orders tonight.

Getting COB's from Cutter. They do not have the MeanWell drivers. Where is the best place to get the HLG-185H-C1400B? A Google search comes up with Jameco as being the best price with shipping. Anyone bought from them? Resellerratings is questionable.

Just thought I'd give something different to think about ...

I keep reading stuff like 'Only difference between 3590 and 3070 is efficiency is better on the 3590' which is a little short sighted imo ...

big difference in 3590s vs 3070s are efficiencies. realistically if youre going to run these for more than a year the 3590s will pay for themselves and youd be a fool to buy 3070s
... not necessarily true... depends on given setup ...

eg : using 8 CXB3070 BD @~25W would outperform 4 CXB3590 @~50W
=> more spread ... same wattage and roughly 10% more light ...


I'm going for [150W] of (4) CXB3070 5000K BD's @37.5W over (3) CXB3590 @50W because :

- Efficiency is better than 3590 CD bin @50W (DB would win if you can find some..)
- Better spread / more point sources favors the 3070 even more.
- Slightly cheaper too.

Point : If you're going for 3590's @50W .. a setup with 3070s @37W or less, is about as efficient if not better ...

=> cxb3070@25W / 700mA will give you crazy efficiency, better light distribution / more point sources.

In your proposed setup, You have to remember that running more lights requires more drivers and more heatsinks. This negates any cost savings that the 3070's might have over the 3590's.

I think the 3590's are still the way to go.

Still need to know the best place to buy the drivers...

No it' doesn't need more drivers, different currents is all.

My chosen setup will be 4 cxb3070 BD on a ELG-150-c1050
vs
3 cxb3590 CD on a ELG-150-c1400 (36V) or ELG-150-c700 (72V)

... as a matter of fact, as it's more efficient, it requires less heatsinking per W / light

its because of the spectrum

5000K will always be mroe efficient than 3000K

5000K 3590s are more efficient than 5000k 3070s

where U at ? most are priced about the same from a US electrical supply so look @ in stock & shipping rates
I got some local in Oakland & shipping Cheeeep & fast next day they were in my hand

I just showed in my previous post that is not always the case, depends on actual setup ...

and by the way : 3590 available top bin is CD for both 3500K and 5000K (80cri)

where as top bin for 3070 is BB for 3500K but BD for 5000K ..

I can build a light bar with cxb3070s with a higher efficiency than cxb3590s. Can be cheaper depending somewhat on available pricing, since a 3070 costs less.

Those are what most people go for, their fine and adequate.

100K ohms is the max resistance (good)
Linear means the increase is linear when your turn the pot, as opposed to logarithmic. (good)
Taper rotary is the type of resistance (good enough)

@bobbyg - you weren't joking there are a lot of potentiometers?

Will these be adequate? I don't know what 100K, Linear, Taper Rotary means.

I received my potentiometers today. I am unsure as to how to wire them. Google has not been all that helpful. There are three pins on the pot. The two wires from the driver go to which two leads on the pot?

I think your layout is good for flowering. I think you can get away with fewer cobs for veg (6 maybe) for that 4x8 space.
All calculations and theoreticals aside, I find that veg doesn't require much light. I have a bunch of super-rooted (aeroponic) clones and teen plants (all now in soil) that go off of two 19w cree bulbs from Home Depot.
Currently I also have 9 cxb3590 3000k in a 5x5 tent in week 4 of flower. Killing it. It's like the forest of hope, love, and victory.
I plan on doing a 9 cob 3590 4000k light myself. Pics maybe?

As long as my heatsinks show up tomorrow as scheduled, I will be building them this weekend. I will take pictures while I assemble them.
