COB vs Cree individual leds

I am new and been reading alot and watching tons of Youtube videos over the last couple of weeks. I've finally found this forum and found the brands like A51 and Optic that use the quality leds. I am now finding out about this COB/Vero led that everyone is excited about. I've searched online and youtube but am not finding many grows with this COB led. Has the COB proven itself already or is it more hype at this point because its more efficient. I understand it can be better quality and more efficient but how are the plants and buds responding to it versus a couple of RW150's. Any good side by side grows showing differences?

Very nice! I certainly see they work. Did you use cree leds before your COB? Did you get better yields with the COB's or much denser buds?

I had found this post (#5949) and he seemed to be getting better results with his A51 leds over a COB. We know COB's perform, I guess I am trying to find the results of them outperforming current Cree leds.

Yes I've used a lamp with Cree xml chips which were very decent performers no doubt, but the cobs blow them away in all aspects, especially yield and density.
A51 is coming out with a vero cob light soon should you choose to go the pre built route.

Not to mention assembly. With the vero series you don't even have to fire up the soldering iron

The COBs have proven them selves, there are many threads on this forum where people have demonstrated superior results with both the bridgelux and the Cree COBs. I used Bridgelux Vero 29's 4000k for my lights, usable for both veg and flower. On my first ever indoor grow I got .75 grams per watt of power, 1 pound of herb off 7 plants in a 6x4 space and there are a lot of things I am going to be able to improve on for my second grow, I expect to get over 1 gram per watt on my second grow. This was also with last years Vero 29's at 115 lm/watt, this years I think are upwards of 134 lm/watt? which is about a 15% improvement on what I am running right now.

I was able to build a light at about half the cost of the optic light, the COBs are rated at 50k hours... about 8 years? and the power supplies should be good for 5 years.

This is probably one of the best posts I have seen where you can kinda see the progression of what's going on with cobs and how the diy thing can get addictive and expensive!!
I do like how the last light setup was 1 cob per sq ft with no fans. That is how I would picture my own cob system, not something you could easily buy in a box

those are some great looking grows. I guess I am going to have to get COB lights I looked at some DIY projects and they don't look hard, I could build them and wire them together but I'd need help pairing drivers with # of COB's and making sure I am buying the right parts/bins. For those that can do DIY, what would you build for a 2x4 tent? I am thinking a 12x30 heatsink with 3 COB's? Need more? What about a 4x4 tent? I am wanting to do a 4x4 tent but may go 2x4.

Oh yeah here's the videoand tomorrow wil be week 3 of flower.
