Currently doing my first grow in soil. Won’t do again, but am wondering if I should amend the coco with anything or just use it straight up??

What soil did u use, why didn't you like it

Get Coco 70/30 with Perlite, works great
But Coco isn't easy, daily water with 1/4 strength nutes is very time consuming

Start seedlings in quality coco like Canna at a ratio of 4:1 coco/perlite for seeds. Once established, i.e. needing to be watered every day, transplant into pots of straight coco. Do not add perlite. Once rooted out in larger pots, water as many times per day as you like. The more you water, the better they'll grow.

Rinse and repeat. Make sure to use coco specific nutes if you're a noob.

I personally like to use approx. 75% Coco and 25% Perlite through grow. I start my seeds in Coco starter plugs. I do agree with the other posters, it is time consuming. I have to deal with my plants daily but I like having total control over nutes so to me it is worth it.

You'll get different opinions.......as you have already found out.

I've been growing in coco for nearly 25 years and wouldn't grow any other way. I never found spending 1/2 hour a day feeding my plants too time consuming.......but if you don't have a 1/2 hour per day, then consider another method.

I like a 70/30 coco/perlite mix. You can use plain coco, but I prefer the perlite for more oxygen in the root zone.......faster growth imo.
Feed daily to run off with a pH around 6.0.
Never plain water, and never let it get dry.

It's that simple.

Good luck.

I pretty well stare at my grow tent for an hour every day when I get home from work. I can def afford it. And 70/30 right from seedling??

Those guys that told you to not do coco because it's too time consuming must be very busy people........1/2 hour a day is a lot for some people, I guess.
Yes 70/30. Start in solo cups if you want fast growth and start feeding weak nutes around day 3-4 from sprout......always to run off daily.

From solo cup right to my 5gal? Is there a benefit to going solo, 3gal, 5gal?
You really don't need a 5 gallon........3 gallon is sufficient with coco.
I start in 1 ltr. airpots and transplant to a 2.4 gallon airpot at two weeks from sprout.
Here they are at two weeks from sprout........just before transplant.

50/50
40/60
30/70
20/80
100 % perlite, more you’ll fall in love with game. Due start seedling in Two 2x2 Stacked rock wool cubes to consider 4 in tap root rule for yield.
