the coco-coir ive read is used as a hydroponic medium.. but is a 70coco/30perlite mix a good medium if im not using a hydroponic system and are watering by hand? doing an indoor 10plant soil grow and caught my eye on the coco/perlite mix and sounds interesting...

wow no one responded and it is already march bro. I am curious to know what you decided?

Coco now is sold premixed with perlite and has humic acid included. Ready Gro is one such product. Plenty of people handwater. A lightproof 5 gallon bucket with one hole drilled in the side, yes about one inch up from the bottom, is an awesome adaptation to handwater with nutes. The perlite is excellent for growth speed and air pockets in the root zone.

its similar to what chemdog uses for his her grow. it gives you the stability and speed of the hydro, but you still get that handwatered outside garden feel.

correct you are sir. sometimes we think of our own shit, haha but alas. i was referring to an article and im paraphrasing but it went along the lines of him using a coco perlite mix and hand watering using hydro nutes. so to answer your question finally yes you can and yes it is a good mix. anything around 75/25

I have mixed the two and used straight coco on a variety of plants .

I find them identical to be honest.

But for some irrational reason, rest assured, I like having more water cycles during the day which an added ratio of Perlite ( 3 part coco : 1 part perlite) enables in my experience. I just wasn't comfortable having the coco solo with its water retention capacity.

I recommend the mix.
