coco kitty experiment

I'm doing an experiment based on a soil mix that @RM3 uses. Original recipe is 50/50 sunshine #4 & clay kitty litter. I'm swapping out the peat for coco coir.
Strain is a very robust bag seed indica that I've grown several times.

Mmmmmmm, your soil looks like chili!!!

First observation: Lots of dust in the kitty litter (special kitty all natural from wal mart). Almost tripled PPM in runoff!
Ph remained steady @ 6.2

Is there a reason you planted it on the edge and not the middle of the pot?

Why kitty litter? If you wanted something inert why not just go with perlite?

Just to see what happens I guess. Hmm... I need something for comparison so I'll set up three more with:
- Original recipe from RM3 (peat/clay)
- Soil (FFOF)
- 100% coco

Follow up:
All of the growing mediums did well & results were similar.
I have created a new formula called Gritty kitty™ -- equal parts proMix HP, coco coir, special kitty all natural (wal mart).
Plants love it! Very porous but still has enough weight to anchor everything securely. Coco tends to hold onto calcium & magnesium so I used a little CaliMagic (by Gen hydro).
I'm also mixing up a batch of organic soil using Gritty Kitty™ as the base. I'll just add compost (30%), a scoop of lime, and some Bio Live. Should be good to go.

Thanks for the pic and name of the litter brand! Got 2 on the way.. only like $7 shipped from wallmrt.

Similar to you, I'll be mixing it into my perilite+peat+coco+lime+vegan-mix batch and testing on a plant or 2

Any idea what all minerals this clay will slow release? Sulfur and maybe a little cal/mag?

Not sure. It's also known as calcined clay.
I added 100 lbs to my garden this year.
