I notice HD & Lowes have MH bulbs down to small wattages. The ones in Lowes were Sylvania. Does any one know a. Do they have the right spectrum for vegging? b. Do they all need ballasts?

Thanks

If its a MH bulb, then yes it should be the right light spectrum. For my veggin i use a Mh bulb that is 6400k, which right where you need to be. When you switch to flower you will go with HPS which is a 2100k light spectrum. And yes you need a ballast with these type of bulbs, no way around that. The only way you can go with no ballast, if you were to use cfl or T5 bulbs. But you wont be as happy in the end if you were to go with MH and HPS.

Thanks, Kush.

I found the specs from Sylvania and they listed the bulb as 4200k. But I couldn't find the spectrum which is definitive. It may have the same color as 4200K and still put out plenty of blue. I was thinking these would be nice for a small veg cab. Ballasts aren't hard to rig up.
