Key word here is history. The only people who want to treat a certain segment of our society differently based on skin color today is you and people like you.

Throughout history nearly every race has been on both sides of the slavery coin but you seem to think one race was more affected by it than other making them not as well equipped to "make it" as their oppressors are 150 years later.

in the history of this nation, it has been very one-sided.

and you seem to be forgetting what happened for a century after slavery ended. institutionalized racism, segregation, disenfranchisement, discrimination, and more lingered, and in certain pockets of the nation still does.

It's obvious to everyone but you that you are saying blacks are not as capable. You give reasons for it even. Centuries of persecution.

Until we treat everyone the same we will continue down the same path. Those cities are poor because of shitty leadership. You can't admit this because that leadership thinks like you do. To admit it would be taking responsibility. Not a quality leadership in those cities have.

The affects of slavery will continue to linger on thanks to people who think we need to "fix" a racist past with policies based on race.

We are going in circles and boring the forum by now so I'll give up on you for now. Bigotry is ignorance, it can be educated so I still have hope for you. Most racists don't realize they are racists but change when they do.

You foisted on yourself. Sorry man. Blacks not from the poverty stricken areas are not affected by the "lingering effects of slavery". This would lead a non-racist person to realize it's not the "lingering effects of slavery" that is keeping people from breaking the cycle, it's the leadership and policies put in place by that leadership. We could address what those cities are doing wrong or we can say it's whitey's fault and pile on.

Why are blacks not in those areas not affected by slavery but blacks in those areas are? Color has nothing to do with it Buck. Whites in those poorly run cities have just as bleak a future. We can't change this as long as you blame slavery instead of 50 years of wrong policies and corruption.

In order to defend the liberal policies that have exacerbated the problems he would rather hold onto racist viewpoints that blacks in his neighborhood are at a disadvantage to the white kids in the same neighborhood. His sides answer is to do more of the same that has perpetuated the problems. Hell, Detroit even had to enact a "You can't re-elect Kwame" law because his side would still vote for him out of their stubborn refusal to admit they are wrong. There is a common theme to the poverty stricken cities. Leadership. Buck will have you believe it's color, yet he can't explain how blacks NOT from these cities do just as well as other ethnic groups. It's an anomaly to him. These people have somehow succeeded in spite of their color and as exceptions to the rule should be ignored. And if you disagree with his racist policies he'll call you the racist or a moron.

I implore people to notice the pattern from his ilk so we can fight it and actually work on the problems instead of throwing money at it. To prove a point...

You want equality? It doesn't just mean making more money, it means giving up the 'high horse' position that some people in minorities take. Social mobility isn't just for whites anymore.

I'm not a white devil, I've never owned slaves, I do not tolerate slavery, and I don't feel bad for what people in the 19th century that I probably have no relation to in any way, did to other people. I'm aware of it, but I don't feel bad for it in a 'first-person' kind of way.

We need to eliminate double standards just as much as we need to eliminate racism. Having multiple standards only helps foster more problems between races. It's basically saying "you're not like these people, so you're treated differently".

We're all humans, we should all have equal chance at opportunity and social mobility. No group of people should be held in detriment or be put on a pedestal it only propagates the idea that some humans should be treated differently.

It's hyper sensitivity. Oh, and I'm not saying I don't understand WHY there's hyper sensitivity; I'm just pointing out that it's not helpful in any way.
