Coloring in soil

someone told me it would make the colors of the plant change if i add some food coloring to the soil, but before i go ahead and do something stupid, i was looking for some advice on the topic? is this harmful to the plant? does it affect us badly when it would be smoked?

Use glow in the dark dye, glowing smoke would be awesome.
