Coming out of retirement

Hello everyone,
I've been out of the growing game for about 10-11 years now and I feel like a newbie starting all over again. Space is limited in my new place and I live on the outskirts of the Bay Area in California, it gets pretty warm over here. I will be growing indoors using a 4'x4'x80" grow tent, 630w CMH light setup, 190 cfm exhaust fan and filter, and a oscillating fan. I plan on doing a SOG with Fox Farm Happy Frog soil in fabric pots and I'll be using General Hydroponics Flora Nova series nutrients. I'm still deciding on what strain to use, but I want to harvest as much as I can out of the grow tent.
If you have any suggestions or input, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, DG

Get a bigger fan & controller,
Get one that does 800, & run it at 25%
This will be quiet and n when it gets really hot you’ll b able to turn it up, instead of stressing your plants n yourself
Your tent should have holes for 8”

Yep, what bighorn said. Plus very little has changed in the last 10 years, "newer" nutes and lights sure. But other than some equiptment, everythings pretty much the same. Plus new doesnt mean better. Invest in the best light you can afford. More fans depending on how full you get the tent. Also, read read read read. Give yourself a good refresher and then some

You have a perfect plan. No coco or hydro bullshit. Right on.

What they said above about air equipment .

Consider World of Seeds White Rhino X Mazar. Heavy producer. Easy to grow. Very high BHO at average 23%. Heavy hitter.

Thanks everyone for all the input. Yeah, I've been reading like crazy. I'm definitely going to up the size of the fan, it gets pretty hot where I live.
I'm looking to do a SoG with 16 plants in 3 gallon fabric bags. 15 years ago when I had first starting growing I tried it all, 6" rockwool cubes with drip system, DWC, and soil. I'm on a budget, hence why I'm using soil and I feel like it's less work.

It's gotten pretty expensive with the 2 extra taxes, and the stuff that is affordable is crap. That's why I'm getting back into growing

So I just checked the specs on the 4x4x80 tent and there isn't any 8" openings, only 6" and 4". Which sucks because I just spent hours going over reviews and putting together a good 800cfm fan and filter set up on Amazon. Very frustrating. Most 6" fans are 440cfm, but I think I am going to need more than that to move the heat from my lights. Does anyone think it's ok to use a 8" to 6" reducer?

So here's my update; I found another tent that has the 8" opening for my fan and ducting, after many hours of reading and research I am pretty confident in using the 630w CMH double hood setup with 2- 315w Philips Master 3100K GreenPower Elite Agro bulbs. What I'm having so much doubt about is, should I grow in soil or do a drip system with 6" rockwool cubes. Since I'm doing a SOG with 16 plants in a 4'x4'x80" tent, I want to make my garden is as self-sufficient as possible. I have spinal cord issues so I have to make everything as easy as possible. My 1st grow 15 years ago was a drip system with rockwool with great results, I just forgot my watering schedule, how often to water, ect. Also my tent is 80" and I don't know if that will be enough room for the reservoir, 4x4 flood tray, 16 plants, space, and then light. My filter and fan can be installed out the tent. Also considering flood and drain, but know nothing about it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, DG

Ive never done a SOG so take what I say with a grain of salt but I would imagine it would be less work in a flood and drain set up. Reservoir can always be outside the tent (and would be better for temp control as well). You could even use a pressurised pump for flooding. Filter should be installed inside the tent up high as the extraction fans work better sucking rather than blowing.

Following along.

Just to touch on the SOG thing and its probably something you already know.
Find the right pheno and then use clones of it. Its worth popping a few seeds and finding the best one. It will make a huge difference not just in yield but growability as well.

Thank you for the advice. I'm going to go with the flood and drain system. I'm going to build a 12" platform to raise my tent and then I'll place my flood tray 12" above the tent floor. I'll then place the reservoir outside the tent on the concrete floor. That should give me plenty of clearance inside the tent. I just received most of my equipment th he other day, not I just need a 4x4 tray and I'll have to get some clones to get started, still waiting on my seeds in the mail. Once I get going, I'll start weekly updates. Thank you everyone for all the advice, very much appreciated.

Hey guys, so I just got my 5x5x80" tent setup in my garage. I just did a dry run with the air and lights on. I'm running 8" 780cfm inline fan w/speed controller attached to 8" scrubber. The tent sucks in pretty good at 1/3 to full speed. Now here is my problem; my garage is average 75°F, when I turned on my 630w Cmh dual bulb, my tent reached up to 92°F. Even with the fan on full speed the temp wouldn't drop. The light is raised as high as it can be and my scrubber is attached to the inside ceiling of the tent. Any suggestions on what I should do to drop the temp 10-15° lower? Thanks

I would get some 6” 90s and make a light blocking intake at the bottom of the tent .
This will help equalize the pressure and bring in more kool fresh air .
Put a filter on it too(keep bugs out)
