If it were me, hypothetically, I would start with easy to grow strains. I would perfect those first then move on to other strains, hence the test room. Your always going to have "NEW HYPE" strains popping up. Like previous post above look at dispensaries. You will see common strains. That will give you a good idea what works together and go from there. Don't worry about the newest thing on the block. There are classics that are a main stay for a reason.
