complete hydroponic starter kit

Hey guys I'm shopping around some right now for a complete kit and I came across this hydroponic starter kit. It caught my eye because it has literally everything to start growing, but it seems like its going to be a little small to have full grown plants. The tent is 4'x2'x5' and comes with a 400w hps with a cooltube. would this be able to grow regular plants besides dwarfs and what not? Also does anyone know of any other kits similar to this or would it be easier/cheaper to just buy everything separatly? Thank you guys so much

Here is a link to the kit:

Easy to just build from scratch!

maybe a top feed set up would be dandy?

1 plant can put out 10oz. 4 times a year=40oz. with only 400w cmh or hps.

That's sure a bunch more smoke than I need!

can you link me to a good hydroponic system? I don't know that much about the systems.

I just looked up the DWC system, it looks pretty good. Do those tend to be as effective as a setup like this?

A lot of these kits are gimmics that play on naive buyers. Like those kits that are 3feet tall and 2 feet deep and 3 feet wide yet have a 40 site setup in it with 1" net cup pots.

That setup linked could be done cheaper. Just the fact that its a kit, i'm saying that without even doing the math.

If you want, send me $795 and i'll send you an awesome 8 site hydro kit. Save you $100

This setup also doesn't come with a meter, which will run you another 200+ for a nice one.

thanks for the input guys, and yea i bet you would first :P

I'm doing the math now to see how much it would cost for me to put together the kit but with only what I want instead of having to make due with what comes with that kit. Does anyone know how far away the light has from the plants with a cooltube (400w)?

Edit:
also would it be better to upgrade to a 600w?

I think the footprint is fine for two plants, but the height may be a problem unless your strains are heavily indica dominant. My tent is about the same height, and I would have run out of room on my sative-dom grow but the plants ended up being male. With that in mind, I'm going to scrog this time around. I think that will do the trick as it should pull 1-2 feet of growth down to a single level.

Good luck!

here is a 2x4 tent for 80 bucks

here is the same light kit as in that starter kit
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Virtual-Sun-400W-HPS-MH-Grow-Light-Tube-Reflector-Hood-Digital-Kit-400-Watt-/310478139319?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4849f06fb7
here is a fan and filter kit

here is a simple dwc system comparable to the one in the kit for 60 bucks but i could build this for 30 bucks easy
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Super-15-Cloning-System-DWC-Sea-of-Green-9-gallon-with-3-netcups-low-profile-/260851251355?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cbbf2389b

so all in less than 500 bucks for all the critical components of that kit so unless the nutrients are worth 300+ bucks dont bother buying this kit. they are going to send you it in peaces and you will have to set it up anyway, all the other components can be bought at home depot for cheap.

thank you DRgreen, I decided I'm just going to use a DWC 5gal bucket system with top drip feed. Would it be better for me to use a bigger light wattage for a 4'x3' cab? Ifso what should I upgrade to? Thank you so much

Also yea my bad ill fix that typo :P

Yeah you should probably go with a 600w. That can be about 8 inches from the plant tops.

If you're doing dwc bubble buckets you dont need top drip. In fact top drip will just open you up to mold and algae on the wet surface of your grow medium. 8 farm kits is just another 80 dollars that you dont need to spend.

Bubble Bucket DWC works by pumping air into the bucket and that create bubbles on the surface which break and get the medium wet, and thats how your plant gets water(assuming the water level is just under the net pot). Over time roots will come out and grow into the water.

Thanks for the input first. I didn't think about the mold factor for the top drip, I had seen some set-up with the DWC and top-drip so i figured it would make it extra awesome :P
And is the 8 inches with the cool tube or without?

Thanks again

That is with a cooltube or an air cooled reflector. They're so cheap and can be made for even cheaper, you shouldn't grow without one.

alright thank you
Another question lol. How tall is most peoples grow Cabinets? I've heard some plants can grow to 5' inside but you can make it shorter by like early flowering or something? Can someone tell me how much grow space I should have for my plants?

Thank you
