After struggling with the cheap hand held devices I paid up for the digital usb that puts the trichomes on the computer screen. I thought I was on top until I went to a person's house for xmas and they had a lab type microscope. I used it to check some buds and it was like driving a caddillac. So much easier and clearer. I was so impressed I bought one and it's in the mail. I may have screwed up though because I bought a compound microscope not stereo. I don't know what kind the person had that I tried. Can you even look at buds with a compound microscope or do you have to put them on a slide?

It's not though. If you google it some say compound is best.

How much time do you want to spend with it? I have a cheap handheld one that I can check my plants with, wish it had less magnification though. For the couple of minutes I want to use it at a time it is fine. I used to use microscopes in a test lab, they were wonderful. Would love to have access to the equipment now but not being able to is not the end of the world.
I guess I need a stereo that gets you the same results as the handheld but with more comfort. The compound you have to use slides and that's not what I"m looking for. I had a mold issue so I'm just getting into identifying mold under the scope. I actually plan on doing pretty thorough inspections from now on b/c it messed me up a little.
