You don't. Just cure them the nug will take their shape they grew into. Are you looking for little spear headed nuggets? Those come off the top of your plant.

What are you talking about? No, Don't do that . That shape and look happens naturally its not smashed its just densely compact

You need one of these to do it right.

I'm just kidding. You can do it just fine with a hammer or large rock.
No, but seriously do as others have advised and just let it dry and cure properly and it will naturally take the shape you are asking about if it has the density to do it. A small whispy bud is still going to be a small whispy bud even after a proper dry and cure. How long did it take you to dry it?

Hmm..ive heard quite a few ppl say they do it. Ive also seen a side by side and it seems ppl always prefer the pressed bud over the non pressed. No smashed to flatness but just enough to have the leaves nice and tight. (Yeah i know all about crushed trichs etc etc)

So you are okay with losing trichomes after months of work trying to get them? Just so the nugs can look a certain way?
I don't understand that logic

My nephew once bought $2500.00 rims for his $500.00 car....when he asked me what I thought...I replied "Do they get you from A to B any faster??"

My point is...what's the point? Will it increase yield? probably not...will it increase potency? probably not. Will it make the budz more dense? perhaps... but are you trying to sell it to a dispensary?

I guess what I am saying is drying and curing the old fashioned way will make dense budz all the more dense. For budz that are not full and dense to start with...I remember back in the day of $20.00 ounces there was always a ton of shake in the bag...you know what shake is? It is the stuff that falls of the bales of Mexican ditch weed. Now, you don't grow Mexican ditch weed do you? I hope not...so don't worry about your budz being pleasant to the sight...smoke out and enjoy!

You can "tighten" them up by lightly pressing them in a vacuum sealer. Don't flatten them, and do it when the bud is semi dry, it turns fluffy bud into rock hard buds, trade secret.

You don't lose trichs, you press them into the bud and some get ruptured into oil or rosin. If you don't lightly press your bud the trichomes fall off easily.

That is interesting, so you are saying that when a object is pressing against buds, 0% of the trichs are not lost or attached to that said object when its pulled away.
When i continually touch bud, my fingers are sticky. Why is that?

I mold my buds all the time before curing.

I wouldn't say I press them super hard, but enough so when they go in the jars they can freely move and roll around. You don't want buds getting stuck to each other when in the jars

It is bud being pressed against other bud, then I pull the buds apart. So the outside buds come in contact with the vacuum bag but still your trichs get pressed like hash vs loose kief. Check out malawi cobs, they are more potent and burn slow after pressing.

I pre-compress every nug I press for Rosin using a folded piece of parchment paper. I fold it down the middle first, then on one side leaving me a corner pocket. I stuff about a gram of 65% rh herb into the corner then pack it in a bit before folding the other side over, leaving a 3 sided square with an open top. then I pack the top a bit, fold it, then smash the square with my thumb/grinder lol.
Leaves me with a perfect size square for my iron, squishes right to the edge of the plates so the oil is outside them, and the parchment retains virtually none of the trichs IMO. I don't re-use the folding sheet more than once or maybe twice, as I think wrinkles and micro-cracks could be catching points...

Edit: I guess my point was, you could theoretically roll a bud in parchment (like a joint) and tighten it up without too much loss I think....

Just dry them, then cure but leave them has they are, years back before all the indoor home growing,we used to buy oz's of weed in a block, stems the lot, looking back on them day's i often think what the fk was we thinking ,one reason i all ways went for red or gold seal hash, far nicer smoke, plus you did not get a 1/4 of seed,i did have some nice smoke's back then though, but not a patch on what we smoke now, prob more thc on a 1/4 than there was on a oz ,of that old stuff we used to smoke, thi weed used to be my favorite back then.

Had some red seal hash on holiday this year in spain tasted like the old rave day's when you could go out for night go to pictures, get chips and fish on way home and still have change from £2.50 lol.

Only time i smoked any thing decent back then is when i went abroad, jamaca,or pakistan. One of my friends still has seed's from pakistan what we brought back mid 80's.
