Compromise to trim the fan leaves

First off. Seriously bro, mag deficiency

Second, arent flowers mutated leaves? Idk if they actually go through the photosynthic process that leaves do, but light to budsites DEFINATELY increases yield and density. But so do many other factors :)

FWIW, if yu just add side lighting, this whole point is moot.

Most all buds ive grown had leaves sticking out. I do a two stage harvest, tops first then the bottoms a week or so later. I am positive that getting more light to them is why they firm up and get those somewhat triangular shapes to them instead of being larf bud. Im not a biologist so i cant be sure why but it seems to me the buds getting direct light grow bigger.

Serious defoliation seems to have a negative affect on yield but strategic defoliation in my exp helps yield. Once again buds have leaves growing out of them
Staggered harvest works swimmingly but is not due to more light but rather auxin redistribution as in topping. Now that the tops are gone the lower sites become the dominant ones due to the increased auxins. This is the main reason for large buds on top not the light, but of course increased food production increases production ie growth and the light does add but only because the auxins are present to take advantage.
I primarily grow sativas which are tall by nature so I light the entirety of the plants top to bottom very adequately with a 400 watt hid below the canopy and T5 HO 54 watt 46" flourescents and 2 overhead 400 watt HIDs overhead on movers thereby mimicking nature with more intense light above and lesser though adequate lighting the entire 6-7 foot of plant. The lower buds are decent but do not get how we prefer them until the tops are harvested even though they always received adequate lighting. The inhibitory hormones prevent their bulk up until redistribution occurs from the top harvest removal.

Makes a lot of sense Kite and i do use auxin redistribution by way of pinching and lst. I had never really thought about it in bud growth aside from knowing that tops definitely get bigger.

I do still think that light hitting those bud leaves helps but youve given me something to think about for sure. +rep

Compromise to trim the fan leaves
Searched a lot for trimming the leaves of the plant for lighting
There are many differences in views
And discovered method may be funny but effective
See the photos

Looks to me like you should worry about other things besides fan leaves blocking light.
More like you need light for the leaves to collect, and you need to feed so they continue to do so.
