Confused.....

Hey guys..
So almost two years ago i got some orange habenero peppers at the grocery store and decided to plant a couple of the seeds. The plants grew and did great and so this summer i put them out in the sun to flower.. The thing is, that the peppers are NOT habs lol..... They are long and green like jalapeños.
What the hell happened to my habeneros?!?
I was thinking they were a hybrid? And reverted back to the original plant?
I dont know the correct question to ask google to look into it on my own and the next best place was to ask ya'll, you know.. With all the smart people on this website.
I know i planted hab seeds.. Nothing else was even planted at that time, just the orange habs.

Hybrids will revert back to their parents when u plant seeds from them. U guessed it. and that goes for all species of plants.

it is a conspiracy! my onion plants yielded garlic this morning the sunflowers have migrated and the zucchini blossoms into squash.... either that or i wasn't paying attention. but who wouda thunk habaneros have been hibridized.

I believe danny is correct. I have no other pepper plants anywhere near the "habs" i planted two orange hab seeds because i wanted habenero peppers to use in my pest sprays. I dont eat peppers, they are too spicy. I live on a little farm plot, im the only one growing peppers as far as my eyes can see, because its all tall grasses in every direction. If this is a hybrid thing then i wonder why they would cross habs and jalapeños.. Do habeneros grow slowly? Maybe crossing them would speed up growth?

Anywho, thanks for the replys. Planting one kind of plant seed just to have another plant pop up was really wacky lol. I guess we cant count on the seeds that come out of the fruits/veggies at the grocery stores to be the same types of plants eh?

Makes me want to experiment next summer to see what other hybrids i can come across.
Cause both hab seeds came out to be jalapeños lol, it wasnt coincidence

In texas, hybrid habs that aren't hot were/are all the rage of the last few years. The taste of hab, without all the spice. That would be my guess of hybridizing habs. Or size, or both.

I have heard of pablano crosses before....

most people that grow habs are hairloom growers. my guess was the peppers at the store were crossed so the resulting seed is a hybrid (Your seed) not necessarily the original hab pepper that you bought. I didnt know you could cross peppers like that. its interesting you may have a new hybrid to introduce to farmers. when they get ripe try one and tell us what theyre like.

Lol i wouldnt be a very good judge of the peppers. I really hate spicy things. I was just growing them so i could use them in bug sprays
