Considering a single plant grow

Hey guys me and my brother were playing around with the idea about trying to grow a single plant in his apartment just for fun. As we were talking we were thinking of ways to grow it when we realized we have no idea how to. So i was hoping you guys could answer a couple basic questions.

1. How bad does it smell to grow a single plant/ how would you conceal it while inside an apartment building

2. How much electricity would you have to use?

3. What is the smallest area we can use and what is the (for lack of a better word) smallest strain to grow?

4. How care instensive would it be to grow weed.

5. Lastly, we cant be dropping money like its nothing. Wed have a tight budget so, i guess what im asking is what would the bare mininum cost?

Hope you guys can give us some info to possibly make our dream come true.

need to get one of those very small tents, has to be pitch black . 75 dollar investment there. 400 watt hps and mh bulb set up 400 dollars there, nutes soil, 100 dollars. electric with lights and small fan . about 70 bucks on the high side a month. smell. who cares hardly smell 1 plant, just burn candles , you could grow 4 nice plants, in the tent . 5 feet tall. strand from my experience any thing but super lemon haze lol . im 8 feet tall inside hitting the light ! I would do it , you will be ok my opinion. care 15 minits a day work. the return medium skilled grower, 4 tooo 10 ounces, every 16 weeks. because of single tent. if you had to tents. one to veg and one to flower double the number

Hey there,
Well for starters,
if your growing indoors, and one single plant, your best bet is to go with an indica, as they stay short and bushy as opposed to the sativa's tall and lanky ness,
the smell all depends on strain, location, and flowering time ( wont be able to tell till you try)

smallest area recommended for a single is 2x2 (two feet by two feet)

electricity, all depends, if your concious about the bill and stuff, fluros or cfls are going to be your best option, dont go looking for the one fluro that has alot of wattage cause you will be wasting your time, if you go to home hardware or your local hardware store you can find ( Micro-mini CFL 6500k daybright ) that comes in a 3 pack but than you also have to accumulate ventilation,

for care and having to tend to the plant, all living things need support and help from time to time, and a cannabis plant is no different, a proper grow medium and the plant strain is the deciding factor on how much attention it will require, dont get me wrong, some plants need less attention than others, but dont think you just plant a seed and walk away from it, every plant no matter what the strain, will require a scheduled watering plan, nute plan, and lighting plan.

Micro mini cfl ( what i used to start seedlings) 6500k daybright for veg and 2400k for flower roughly 24$ for the lights,
Light fixture with a reflector ( found at nearest reptile or hydroponics store roughly 20$
25l of tropical soil, (guano,perlite,peatmoss,soil ect ) 11$
Nutes/bloom/root accelarator - 30$
your seeds 0$-50$(roughly)
P.H tester ( i dont use one, some say dont worry about ph some do it all varies)

24+20+11+30+(0-50)+17.99= should cost no more than 90-100$, but again thats just a guesstimate, the only way to tell is to go price everything out

your right but for a first time grow, hps and stuff isnt necessary for him, BUT it will always show CFL growers up, as for a tent, or stopping light leak he wont have to worry about it untill flowering time, but it is always good to plan ahead,,
with the hps he would be growing monsters and not know how to control them

and he would have to get into topping and pruning and stuff, ( WICH is not a bad idea since your going for a one lady farm, topping and bending will help maximize your yeild,

1) depends on the strain but yes it will stink out your appartment if you have no odour controll. 2) Not much using CFL's (which are ideal for new growers) 3) You can use anything as small as a desktop PC case, or a cupboard/closet. You'l want an Indica strain, short and bushey. 4) Its a bit of work to get it all setup but once it's growing you just gotta water it every few days. if youcan't handle that then you shouldnt grow! 5) Use CFL's and reflective plastic in a closet or something and you can do a budget grow pretty damn cheap.

You will want to check on it at least 3-5 times a day this will help you identify problems before its to late. If you are just growing 1 plant it would be wise to set up a scrog grow. If you can afford a 400 watt mh/hps light you wont regret it you can use cfls but the yield will be way less.

The problem I see with getting a 400w hps for a 1 plant grow is that your cost vs reward will be way out of proportion, even if u get a realativly cheap hps ur looking at 150-200 dollars, plus you will need an inline fan and exhaust to cool it so that's another 100-150 dollars, and this is before you even buy anything else. The most you could expect to yield from one plant on a first grow is 2-3 oz of dry bud and you'll be waiting 4 months to get it. Just not worth it for one plant imho. I'd recommend t5 flouresents or cfls for a 1 plant setup, and northern lights is a very good choice for strain, its low odur and nice and bushy.

Practically the same thing i said :P, just i dont use reflective plastic or tinfoil, i go with white paint as tinfoil, mirrors ect not only decrease the lumens hitting your plants, they can leave spots or light stress, white paint is like 98% reflective. or something like that, theres a bigger word for it somewhere :P :weed:

Good old Northern Lights is pretty low odour, compact indica, easy to grow.
Absolutely right about NL. They can get enormous though, if not topped or trained. But a great beginners strain. Saw a beginner grow 15'+ plants outdoors, total yield 28lbs. Very little work were put into them. They seem to be very pest and diease resistant. Very good suggestion.

For one plant you can use a double stacked Rubbermaid box or even a large pc case. If stealth isnt an issue then a tent or cabinet or closet would be ideal. For one plant use cfls anything else is wasteful and will not add to our yield. Grab a 6 pack of 6500k cfls and a 6 pack of 26-42 watt cfls. What ever you can afford. That will be plenty of light to get a zip yield off a small plant. A for strain any indica dominant strain will stay compact and be quite hearty and vigorous in growth as well as have a low flowering time. I would suggest northern lights its kind of the default beginner strain. To save money you can use bag seed, even schwag seeds when grown right can be a pretty good smoke.

150 watt hps , 90 bucks. 16,00 lumens for one plant is enough for sure. No need for a 400. Cfl's are junk I've used the small and large ones they cost more in the long run if u do it again. There output dosent last the life time of the bulb, and the bud isn't as big or hard. And I've used 150 watt hps and a 400 watt hps. Flat white paint reflexs just as good as Mylar and such. You need stink control. 1 lady can fuck a place up. NL is a great strain, a hardy indica and it will take a lot of abuse from trial and error from nutes. U need a light timer to keep a steady light time in veg and flowering.

-$90.00 -150 watt hps
-can on flat white paint ----since it's a budget grow I'd skimp on it
-$20.00 of good soil
- $10.00 water tester for p.h...pet store water drop test kit. Cheap will work
p.h down and up drops 15 bucks for both.
And nutes flowering and vegging $40.00 for both at most.
Bag seed free.
Under $200.00

Growing isn't cheap if your hiding it, carbon filter should be looked into,

ipower carbon filter 6" cheap on ebay less than $50 bucks if you look around usually free ship
6" inline booster $30-40 free ship
apollo 400w 6" cooltube and digital ballast $120 roughly free shipp
less than $200 and you can add more plants later on
which you more then likely will i dont think ive met anyone that started to grow weed and then said i give up
might as well buy larger than what you need you will add more plants more than likely and just have to invest more if you start small

gl 120 tent with a mh/hps kooltube(don't skimp on this shit by the best even if used), promix for a medium a decent feeding schedule of n-p-k and a basic knowledge of the strains your looking into growing.

Mylar is the best possible, but white paint or plastic is a good and cheap alternative.
