Considering growing some mushrooms

I'm curious as to how it would turn out but I have a question

Am I right in thinking that as long as everything is kept clean theoretically I would only ever have to buy spores once?

So once I have some mushrooms growing I just add more substrate for the fungi to grow into?

No that’s not at all how it works.

if you can get into agar, you can isolate cultures and keep the best ones going via agar to agar transfers. Like keeping clones except it’s 8000x more sterile and if you get any fucking mold spores in your spawn from the start your entire grow will be ruined.

if growing weed on a 1-10 easy to hard scale at a 3, successfully growing large quantities, monotubs of mushrooms, 6 quart jars of spawn at once to make huge tub, you gotta be good.

it’s not for the lazy man or one unwilling to research.

you can easily grow “PF tek” recipe and that’s where id recommend any first time mushroom grower to start. Bulk is a totally different ball game. Requires, I say that again, requires a pressure cooker maintained at proper pressure for 90-120 mins cooking your grains killing the endospores.

go to sporeworks website and order any syringe of your choosing, cubensis variety, and google pf tek. Follow it to a T, no substitutions, and you can get a zip of shrooms off a handful of half pint jars easy.

Here’s some tubs I’ve done. Ones on the plate are koh samui super strain the tub with lighter is penis envy

Google how to make mushroom growing petri dishes.

Buy spores. Sporenite.com is reputable.


23 qt pressure cooker $130 Unicorn bags 14-a $20 35 lbs bird seed $12 Spore syringe $15 Petri dishes $11 Agar $10 Light malt extract $10 Mono tub $7 Coco coir $10 Bucket with lid $4 Vermiculite $15

Pour bird seed into bucket. Fill with water and rinse a few times. Fill with water and let soak for at least 12 hours up to 24 hrs. Drain water from seed till the strainer is done dripping. Weigh out 3 lbs of bird seed and put it in the bag. Fold the bag a certain way. Look up making grain bags on u tube to see how to fold it. Then place in pressure cooker. Pressure cook the bags for 2 hours. Let pressure cooker come down naturally and let bags cool completly. Learn to make petri dishes for muchrooms and add grown out dishes to the bags. Zip tie the bag shut and shake that bitch up. Let it sit till its colonized. In the light, in the dark it don't fucking matter.

Once your bags are completely colonized mix 1 650 gram brick of coir and 4 qts of vermiculite with 4 qts of water. Once fully hydrated place it in a pot and cook it for 1/2 hr till its all steaming ass hot. Make sure to keep mixing it here n there. Pour the shit in the pot into the tub and let cool completly. It will rake a couple hours. Once cooled add 2 bags of mycelium to the tub and mix it all up and level it out. Let the tub fully colonize. You can put it to fruiting conditions from day one or u can let it colonize first it really dont matter. If you don't fuck up you will be getting high in about 2 months

Last tub i made like this is got 13.5 dry ounces out of it. More than enough to recoup the initial investment.

Heard penis envy is difficult. Looks good.

There's a reddit sub called r/UncleBens and they use bags of Uncle Bens pre-cooked brown rice to put their spores in and it seems to work great.

Last Nov. I picked up an oz of Penis Envy for $99 for micro-dosing and still have lots left. Got a gift box promotional with a 3g infused chocolate bar that got me ripped off my ass eating 1g worth, 10 - 0.3g caps and two 8ths of other 'shrooms for $20 postage.

Unless you need lots of 'shrooms or plan to sell them why go thru the hassle unless you enjoy the challenge. Pot is a lot easier.

Good reddit for finding honest MoMs for 'shrooms if in Canada and likely one for the US in there too.

also yes unless you’re in a trippy folk area or really love mushrooms….. they’re a hard sell. Not many people buy them and if they do it’s usually on rare occasion. one grow can last you a long long time personal. So it’s worth the effort IMO.

Getting really good and running many back to back monotubs is fuckin like learning a true trained skill, not near as easy as pot. Used to run QPs down to Savannah GA for like five bills or so but that wasn’t too often. Ole boy pretty much supplied all the mushrooms Florida and Georgians were eating. Said a lot even would make it to Cuba and who knows where else. Dude turned a I guess it was a rail cart or one of those big long semi trailer looking boxes into a true mushroom lab on his property. Was one of the “realest” things I’ve ever seen. Couldn’t believe it.

Or you can perpetually make new syringes so you only need to buy spores once..

Someone recently posted their first, was in fact grown in the bag, ready sterilised substrate so all you need is clean innoculation - no casing needed

Fairly 'niche' interest here too. I did grow once before i gave away my pressure cooker, but it was only cakes - never jumped headfirst into casings. There is some poor bastard inmy State facing a life prison sentence for being found with some mushrooms in his car out in the country so I guess he'd been picking. Charged with possession of a commercial quantity, though they likely weighed the container as well (a common occurrence). Laws all over are a travesty but Australia does it worse than just about all other democracies.

Shrooms are much easier than weed imo.


a couple hours of prep and then you can just kick a little tub under the bed for a couple weeks and pull it out to collect an ounce.

Looks awesome man. I wish I could agree shrooms are easier. For me personally they can be finicky. Big tubs like that scare me. I often get the mean green early on and not sure why. Use a SAB, etc. really hit or miss for me.

That’s from dirty spawn.

once you get clean spawn it’s pretty much invincible, that’s like 90% of shrooms. It can be tricky though.
