Considering replacing my 1000 watt HPS with Gavitas. Thoughts?

Like the title says Im considering swapping out my 1000 watt HPS bulbs with Gavita setups. I have a guy that can swap the Gavita lights into a raptor hood thus eliminating the heat issue. Do you guys think the grow gains are worth the extra initial investment? Would cost me roughly $800 per light including hood, ballast, bulb and setup.

I bought one used on a whim and the light output on it is pretty fucking amazing. Sadly the heat output is as well since its made for commercial grows so its sat idle until my local hydro store guy said he could separate the bulb/ballast and toss the bulb in a Raptor hood

I don't have much to say about this type of light.
if you buy it though make sure to keep us posted.
i have done some extensive research into induction lighting but I am also not convinced.
from what I've read about induction lighting it seems that itll make a good veg light option.
but for the price most retailers are asking for it just isn't economical yet unless you have a huge operation or you do clones.
once they become cheaper I think they'll eventually phase out t'5s

I read on another forum you can order the induction lights direct from the Chinese manufacturers for dirt cheap.

Yeah I have read this too.
There is two companies, one being HVL or HYL or something.
I've read mixed reviews about these because I believe they only come in a max of 130w which is equivalent in comparison to maybe a 600 watt HID light and I heard the quality is hit and miss. You might have one that'll last 5 years and you might get one that lasts 6 months. Good luck returning something too china you know?
I would rather buy one expensive light every five years than buy a cheaper knock off and have to replace it every six months.
The bulb is thinner in those ones because china has different laws. Making the mercury nipple more fragile. I don't want to be smoking weed that had a cheap mercury induction bulb explode on it.

You can get anything dirt cheap from the Chinese but you have to buy in huge quantities.

I am a medical grower from south east Michigan and I bought my first gavita 1000 DE about 6 months ago and put it in my grow room to compete with 3 other 1000 watt lights, a raptor, magnum xl and Luxor. From start to finish there was no competition, the gavita more than proved its worth. Myself and 2 fellow growers I know all switched out to gavitas there after. Everything from yield to all around quality was increased! But don't get mislead, I am by no means growing in a closet or basement, I have a large metal out-building and have sufficient room to raise my lights to a height thats not going to scorch my plants. So with that said, if your trying to reach maximum yields and excellent quality, the gavita is second to none as far as I am concerned. If you have any more questions, I would be more than happy to do my best to answer them. I'll leave you with this, I can say with confidence that this product brought a grow that I was more than happy with in every aspect to a level that I didn't know was possible.

How close do you keep your Gavitas to your plants? Is it due to actual light burn or heat burn you dont go any closer? How do you cool your grow with them? Ive read most commercial growers use a wind sheer with Gavitas or do you just go overboard on cooling? How big of a footprint does it put out once hung? What kind of yield do you see over 1 1000 watt with it?

I keep them about 4'-5' feet from my tops, I have personally never burnt my plants with them but I'm not willing to take that chance. Our room with the gavitas is about 30'x20' and has 12' ceilings, we keep it cool with a few wall mounted oscillating fans and a nice AC/dehumidifier and for shits and giggles we run a round industrial floor fan bouncing air off the walls, not directly on the plants. As far as yield goes I can only speak for the strains that we run and they are all from seed and purchased through attitude seedbank. On Indica dominant strains the running average is roughly 3-4 ozs. Sativa dominants a little over 5 ozs. As far as one gavita goes, I bought my dad a gavita 1000 DE about 3 months ago and he ran 12 plants under it and I know he is going to average 3 ozs per plant. That's a guy who has never grown in his life, given he was set up with good strains. If you would like to see some plant pics, I can see what I can do for you.

Can you be more specific about your AC? Would one of the "big" split units I see at hydro shops work?

Also after reading about the hoods Im worried that switching into a Raptor could be pretty detrimental to its performance but maybe I could move it closer?

First off, I would absolutely not take apart the gavita and try and piece it together with a Raptor??? The lights are fine just the way they are, gavita has been in business for over 30 years in Holland, they are on the cutting edge of lighting. As far as the AC goes, I have a nice LG air conditioner/dehumidifier mounted up on my wall about light level. It was less than 500$, I honestly cant remember exactly? I bought all my Gavitas in Ann Arbor, MI at The Grow Show. They are one of 2 exclusive suppliers in the U.S.A. They carry them in stock on the show room floor every day.

My local grow shop already does this for ~$100 per light. The main issue I have with them is the heat output. It gets VERY hot where I live and Im worried even a good wall mount wouldnt add the extra cooling I needed for 6-8 of them. Heres what it looks like set up, doesnt void the warranty at all either.
