container size question

I wasn't quite sure where to post this question. My room has an average height of 54"(it actually starts at 60" and at about 3'w, it drops down to 40"(roof angle). I am only looking at 4 plants and mostly indica dominant. I will have a cool tube 600w set up with exhaust. I want to give my plants the most possible growth, SO I am thinking of lower/wider container set ups for each plant to allow more vertical growth. My question is would something like a 6"x 16" container hurt plant/harvest size any? I am looking at the concept of very wide but not as deep. Will my roots system find happiness? Thanks

I do not know if your root system can ever find happiness.... Dr. Phil, are you out there?.........................I have run different sized containers loaded with the same clone, grown with the same everything... I have found, that the Deeper the container the better the initial grow… Meaning, the plants need deep roots, for a better environment… The heat from your lamp will also effect your plants if they do not have deep roots…I only veg my plants for 6-8 weeks, I have grown out Pepsi/Snapple bottles plants that are deeper than regular nursery pots of similar soil size, the Smaller containers grow much faster, for me…

I would want a deepest as possible pot to grow my MJ in… Bigger/Greater roots= greater buds….

Hey bud

From what i can gather it seems like it would be best if u used some sort of LSTing/topping and train those plants to grow out <<<<>>>>> instead of up ^^^^^^
whats the exact dimensions of the room this will be going on in?

Generally speaking its best to move the pot size up after the roots completely fill the last sized pot. Once the roots are bound (or close to it) transplant to a bigger pot. Bigger pots mean even water saturation, more available nutrients and bushier plants. If the plant seems top heavy for the pot, it probably is. The roots will grow almost to the size of the plant on top of them, keep that in mind when choosing a pot size.

So if u had a tray that was 5 inchs tall and 12 inchs wide would that plant thrive as well as a plant that was in a 12 inch tall by 5 inch wide?

Yeah this is interesting seeing my first grow now I'm useing containers that are 5 gal but wider then high

I think deeper is better then wider. You may want to search on some of the articles by Uncle Ben.

Therein lies the answer, modifying veg techniques to suit the room.

The farther down the tap root can go the taller the plant will grow the wider the pot the wider the plant imo

Think logically... Shallow pot, roots closer to surface... Deep pot, deeper roots, safer from heat etc... However, you use what you have... I'd like to try [no room] four plants in a 25 gallon tote with many drain holes... FYI: Add twice as many drain holes as you initially think... if you are DIY your pot...soil needs to breath...
