container soil temperature control?

hello. i know having the roots in the ground helps them tolerate warmer air temps due to the earth staying pretty cool and keeping the roots cool. also cooler water is directly related to dissolved oxygen content.

i have some in the ground but want to have some in containers as well. previously i just used white containers. but i am wondering if there are any tricks or ideas for keeping the soil temps down??

i usually grow hydro and am somewhat new to outdoor. i wanted to just put some plants directly into a hole in a bag of fox farm ocean forest but the bags seem to bake out in the sun.. is this because they are thinner? should i use a container? would watering like 1 min an hour help since the water is cool? being as the babies are just rooted they are doing better in small 4" containers than the soil bag.

thanks for any help, im just messing around in the backyard and am curious to container growing secrets.

as long as you water them a lot i wouldn't think your going to have to worry, they can take a lot of heat, if you really want to keep them cool why not just bury the bucket? they would stay out of sunlight and could still be moved, just be sure to put lots of golf ball sized rocks at the bottom of the hole, to aid in drainage.

bury the bucket that is a great idea i had not thought of! that would work and let me move the plant if i needed to pull it up in an emergency.
another reason i would like some plants in containers is so i can move them around to the best sun spots as they change. another reason is so i dont have to dig a hole, and if i dug a hole i would think the plant would flourish much more in the hole than in the bucket in the hole.

Burlap sac's mean no digging. But the root's grow threw them so no moving them. If you like this idea look at my thread "Good soil and a Burlap sac"

Hey Shaman I had a question about where you get your soil? Seems to me thatd be heavy crap to drag to a swamp  Do you just look for decent soil out in the woods and dig it up? I love the idea of burlap sacs tho.
