Contractor in extension lead?

Was advised by a guy at greens horticulture would be ok to put the mains end into extension lead but after reading over all my safety paperwork it says only put into the wall not an extension lead?

Its a 400w light and only other appliances on extension lead running will be my wilma 4 pot system and a 4" fan if it helps or makes a difference.

I hope its not a danger as its a storage cuboard where my tent is setup with no plug sockets otherwise itll have to go in spare room and its a secret jardin dr90 so only takes a peek in room and would be well obvious.

Thought id specify more detail what i got going before i turn on the switch wanna make sure is safe!

Ive got a cassette reel 4 socket (wound up 720w max 10 amps) in that i have my plug for ballast, fan and contractor 2 way relay ac3-10 amp 230-240v-50hz
In the contractor ive stuck my plug+timer for my wilma system (wont fit in extension as timers to big?) and of course plig+timer for light. I can put a pic up but on mobile so dont think i can upload until on pc.

I dont know if the extension can carry the load ok or if i can even put another timer in the extension bit of contractor but it made sense to me but im not clued up on that side of things!

not that this will help you but it might weed out some wrong answers. you are not in N.America,Right?our electric is very different than the european system.
I can't tell you what size wire you need but after powering up the circuit, feel the extension cord near the plug & keep checking it every hr for several hrs. slightly warm is OK but any thing more is a sign of overloading.

Correct im in the uk so i dont know what gauge my extension lead is if thats a non uk/eur thing. Ill try the warm/hot test just didnt want to turn on and blow something!

Is it ok to have another timer sat in contractor though thats my major uncertanty. This is the contractor except i have my mains wire into extension lead and ballast in the 2 socket part but also with plug/timer for the wilma

id just use a 2 plug cassette reel extension for your contactor to go into and use a different extension lead for your other stuff
