Controlling height.

Just did my first cycle.

Many mistakes but the main one is that the plants were growing in height but not weight.

They were growing tall to the point they were falling over, had to tie them down.

The pics attached are how they started and how they were by the 5th week of flowering.

you need to keep the light as close as possible without burning them, and keep a fan on them to keep the stems strong.

there were two different strains.

one was master kush and the other was big bud.

So i don't think it was the type of seed but rather the way it was set up.

@ wiseguy: the lights were pretty close to the plants. I only raised the lights to prevent burning, but the more i raised the more it grew.

wow those are sad. What are you using for lights? Keep them as close to the tops as you can 12" is a good starting point for hps/mh. You said you only raised your lights to prevent burning, that means you need a air cooled reflector and some better ventilation. Get regular fans to to blow on the plants to beef up the stocks.

First guess is to get more lights in there and get your temps cooler. What type of light and how much wattage are you using per sq ft? What sort of temperature are you seeing lights on and lights off.
