Converting 600w to 1000w

I currently have an ipower 600w ballast, air cooled hood, and MH/HPS lights in a 4x4x6.5' tent. I'm not super happy with light penetration and wanting to go to a reliable 1000w ballast + 1000w Digilux bulb. Will I be able to just purchase a 1000w ballast and use it with the same hood? Is there anything I need to change for them to be compatible? Heat isn't an issue as winter is coming (). I just pulled one of six plants and it only yielded a little over 2.5oz. Not terrible, but there is always room for improvement. 600w at 16 sq ft is 37.5w/ft whereas 1000w is 62.5w/ft which is a huge difference.

You didn't mention DE and honestly I don't know about that in regards to 600/1000w I don't have both in DE. In single ended bulbs I have both 600w/1000w and I do use the same hood with both. One of my ballasts needs a converter to use with my hood but it converts the plug that goes into the ballast, the hood uses the same whatever size mogul based socket. If there are single end bulbs that use a different socket type for 600w vs 1000w then I am unaware of them but just don't forget the plug type to your ballast. (they look different just look at your hood plug)

2.5 per plant isn't bad, but I put 12 in a 4x4 under a 600 and get 1.5+ per 600 in a 4x4.
How long did you veg?

I couldn't imagine 12 in a 4x4. I have 6 and it is straight packed! I veg for around 2 months under 600w MH. This round they were 24" before flipping and ended up around 42". All had 8 tops. Next time I'll be doing 4 plants with a scrog setup.

What do you do? How big are your pots? How long do you veg? What medium and nutes? What type of bulbs and ballast?

Attached pic is from a week or so ago. I also heavily defiolated which I will hold back from doing this next grow :P

9 liter square pots with coir DTW, veg runs from 21-28 days strain dependent. Right now I'm using Cyco base nutes' with Hydroplex as a booster weeks 3-5 of flower. Apollo 600 watt ballast with a hortilux SHPS for flower. 400 watt MH for veg. All open reflectors.

Yes it gets crowded, but I do a complete air exchange every 45-50 seconds.DSCN0669.JPG
