Converting chest of drawers.

Well i'm planning to convert and old chest of drawers into a grow cab with minimal money spent on items ( apart from lights ) to do it.

The dimensions are about 60cm Length : 30cm wide : 80cm high

The lighting i will use is a ' PL-L lighting fixture ' otherwise known as propargation lighting used for clones and seedlings, the bulbs will be changed to 2700k as after the veg period, the bulbs are 55w ea and produce 3000-5000 lumens each, they are better than CFL's and can produce really good results in spaces like these.

The fixture itself is 50cm Length : 20cm wide : 8cm high
So giving me about 60-70cm room to grow in depending on the pot size, ALOT of lst will be used for the best results.

The thing is, I have an idea and clue on how to convert a chest of drawers, but I don't want to spend more than maybe £30 doing it, as I dont think it will take that much ( excluding the light )

Anyone give me a run down on what to do for the grow cab? i've figured to..

- Take out the drawers, yet leave the drawer at the bottom inside while getting the other drawers and sticking them together with something, also will need to make it lightproof? how could i do this.

- Cut an exhaust holes, and intake hole and place two 80mm fans their, also a hole for the power cords to go through

- Light traps and lightproofing is also essentail, i've figured out the light traps
but how could i make it lightproof?

- The drawer faces are quiet crooked and out of place

- What tools will i need? I have a hand saw, Drill, Hammer, Nails, Wood glue

Anyone give me any ideas? i've googled a lot, but either they are doing an actual ' cabinet ' conversion or it's nothing like mine

any help will be appreciated.

A picture speaks a thousand words my friend...
Anyways, for light-proofing you can use silicone caulking, you'll also need to insulate the inside of your box with reflective material, or you can paint it flat white, if it isn't already...
I'd use metal brackets of some sort to fix the faces of the drawers together, it'll more than likely make it more stable. Then you can use the caulking I mentioned to light-proof it...Velcro strips or weatherstripping can be used to light-proof the space between the door and the box...
Hope this helps man! Sorry for the late reply...And for future reference, members tend not to post in threads with long posts and no pics. So try to make your threads a little more attractive and I'll guarantee you that you'll get many more responses!

how about gluing the faces of the drawers in place and rigging a door on a side or the back of the unit?
