Converting section of spare bedroom into a grow area

I have a spare bedroom that is 8x17, I was looking to make a 4x8 section to start a 6 plant scrog with 2 600w hps lights. My question is, should I purchase a tent, or just put up some reflective material in the 4x8 area that i would be growing and leave the rest open? I am a little concerned about smell, and have a carbon air filter but i'm under the assumption i could control the smell a lot easier with a tent?

Who are you concerned about smelling your grow,two 600 w lights will create a lot of heat is the floor carpeted how much trouble will it be to black out the room

You are gonna want a tent to help contain the odor and prevent light leaks.

Sounds like an ideal situation for a tent. Gives you a separate environment within your room.

Tents are cheap nowadays back in the day we just used hard foam insulation boards and a tarp zipper on some panda film.either will work but u can get a tent on amazon for 100 bucks. Of course they make nicer tents i really like the green ones that htgsupply sells but they can be pricey and depending inn celing height might be too tall.

As already touched on.....heat from lights.
Be sure to plan for temp and humidity management.

Thanks for replies, I think I'm gunna grow in my 4x4 tent and refine my technique before making the jump. 3 plants 312grams it was an honest effort, I'd like to hit a pound in the 4x4 with my 600w before I "earn" an upgrade lol

Aim for 1 gram per watt of HPS.
