Cooking Soil

ok, SHould i cook my soils in the oven lets say 150' I have gotton root aphids from Roots organic, and happy frog and ocean forest have abunch of bugs in them too, and it is Fucking my plants up. I wanna have organic pot, but hydro is seeming more apeeling everyday.

But what if I baked my soil in the oven? would that kill all the bugs? I would bake the soil, than mix up a super soil with it. super soil with bugs in it = 1/4-1/2 oz yeailds, and that anit worth it. so the bugs gotta go one way or another

Im starting to feel the same way:)To properly "cook" soil you have to bake it at 180°f for 30 minutes,not going over 200° you'll cook off beneficial bac.This should get rid of any harmful critters:).GOOD LUCK! !

Cooking will work, but it will smell pretty bad. Another method is to sun bake it in the summer. I usually start seeds in a sterilized medium, then after a month I transplant outside directly into the garden. When I do buy potting soil I often mix it with a few cups of Diatomaceous Earth.

My soil has bugs in it, and i need to get rid of them before i put my plants in it. how do i compost the soil? it is in bags in the sun.

yeah that would be probably good just laying out in the sun. compost piles normally get up past 140-150 degress temperatures that hot will kill bugs and bad/ unbenefitial organisms also weed seeds. compost can get too hot tho and start to kill the benefitial bacteria.

oven is good if you're doing small grows, or have a very large oven
i do small grows and baking the soil works very well
there are other ways but baking can be very simple and effective

i have a small/normal size oven, but Iam only doing a few plants, so i only need to cook 2 bags

take a tarp lay it out and spread your soil out in a thin layer let set in sun few days you will be good to go.I am getting ready to do this with my worm bid and compost pile ,and compost piles have plenty of bugs not sure where you got that one at? most composts don't hit a high enough temp to kill off any larvae and or insects.

I have too many clones I was wondering if I can go straight from 1glon pots into 3 gallons with supersoi, right into flower.I would usually wait a week or two. With bigger pots I veg for a good month. Ive never gone right to bloom. Will the yield be affected

The bugs take off due to the heat and soil will also dry out causing them to evacuate but hey if ya wanna stink up your house cooking dirt in your oven your choice.i use a silver tarp might as well be an oven it's sitting on.

I've never had any problems with bugs or grass seeds or mold or any of that with roots organic or ocean farm.......I vote user error

There's more than one way to skin a cat.We all have opinions,some better than others:)I live in TEXAS even the bugs are used to the damn heat!Btw.....I use a black 55g drum to sterilize my soil when I need to:)Good luck Med/420

I make super soil with roots organic....im guessing they must die in the 5 weeks of "cooking" my soil does...I make batches on 30 gallons at a time in trash cans and keep it turned once every 3 days, so i guess thats the secret to killing the bad stuff off....

I use a local unamended soil blend for the top 40-50% of my soil and use my cooked super soil for the bottom in all of my 5 gallon containers...
If you don't overwater, you won't have fungas gnats........

in super soil the soil is just that cooked goes through a biological process that's why no bugs also the bennies help fight bug problems one of the good points about s.s. and bigger420 if your using a black barrel your doing the same thing as the tarp the heat is causing them to evacuate put my .02 in done with this thread it's pointless i see.

We take all kinds of precautions not to bring bugs in are rooms, take are shoes off, make sure we didn't just walk in the woods, we clean, we dont take in clones with out putting them in quintine first, we filter are air. And all that work keeping the room bug free, JUST TO BRING IN BUGS IN THE SOIL!!!!! well I anit bringing any bug infested soil in any more, I shall cook those little fucker out of the dirt.... :)

get my point.
