cool tube necessary?

HI

I was just wondering if i need a cool tube?

If I have a strong fan aimed directly at my hps will that be sufficient?

Its gonna be 400 watt hps if its closet or 1000watt for a small room

i live in australia (warm climate)

A strong fan will definitely draw heat away from the bulb, however the heat will still remain in the grow room

If you have a really good exhaust system you may be ok

Try it with a thermometer and see what your temps are

Cool tubes can be built very cheaply. That have a great post that explains step by step, how to do it yourself

Cool tubes are always nice. It will make it much easier to control temps, especially in a closet. I have a 400 watt hps and it used to get pretty hot before I aircooled the light. Good luck.

if you have a heat issues or in a small grow area then a cool tube well be best. but in a big room if you have enough fans and air flow to keep your room cool then no you will not need one. goood luck

Also on the flip side. If you have issues where your grow space is cold then not using a cool tube should not be an issue.

they are by far the best thing I added to my room.It's like running cfl's being they can grow right into the tube and not burn but with the light of a hps.I run a 600watt hps and I run my tube 8 inches off the plant tops.No burn,no problems.Hell I can keep my hand on the glass without a problem.Cool as my 40watt cfl cloneroom lights.Get 1 ya wont be sorry.
