Cord from ballast to lamp is too short

I purchased a flipbox by powerbox to run a second 1000k lamp. Problem is, where I have the second lamp, the cord running from the lamp back to the flipbox (ballast) is 10 feet too short. Question - Is it unwise to splice some 14ga. wire rated at 600v into my lamp cord? Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Fine as long as you use proper connectors and avoid twisted together wires with insulation tape.

just go buy u a cord stretcher if funds r tight tie one end to a stop sign and other end to your bumper or do what he said second the warning on the tape it fails sometimes
use a crimp on connector and then use tap or heat shrink tubing

make sure the wire temp rating is for 140 dgs f. (90 dgs c) read the insulation markings on the existing ballast wire and try to match it closely...i think you want to use type MTW conductors for that.

something else to consider is the temp ratings of all other connections. this will affect wire selection. use wire nuts, not tape. enclose all your splices in a box or inside the ballast compartment. if your still unsure i do service calls at 55 hourly.

basicly you dont want to use a 60 dgs c wire for a 90 dgs c termination. the ampacity and insulation rating of the wire selected will be reduced to 60 dgs causing possible insulation failure, thus putting you at risk of shock and fire.

I don't know how to give "bumps", but I thank you all very much. I will most definately pick a wire with the proper temp rating as well as 600v capability.
