Correct CFM to scrub tent.

Yeap he said the filter won't last as long (no pre filter) and he said you MIGHT leak some smell out of the actual blower if the filter is not super efficient in passing the air through the carbon, and you have back pressure coming through the fan (highly unlikely) he said.

To to be honest wdik I went from a 2x2 tent to a 3x3 tent, and have not tried putting the filter inside the 3x3 tent. When I receive this shipment this week I'll try putting the filter inside to see how much room I have. Thanks guys!
Give it a try. Like I said, I thought the same thing. My filter is resting against the back wall of my tent. But that should leave about 7/8 of usable filter surface area.

All I know is that the filter cleared up the "sour" smell in my house in about 2 hours.

The filter will be above the light or around the same area so why NOT use it like it should? Ask your friend about backpressure on a fan thats expensive. The air will doubtfully make it out at the same rate the fans pumping which will create backpressure in the lines and either bust the line or slow the fan down while its trying to pump air creating a problem in the future. Its your money but I wouldnt risk it. Think about installing a one inch exhaust pipe on a 454 big block. Just my two cents

I've always read that is better to have a fan sucking air out rather than blowing. The reason is because if it is sucking, you create negative pressure inside the tent. This works better for containing odors because you aren't blowing air out through all the seams and other places where there are leaks in your tent. Rather you are sucking air in through all the seams and forcing all the dirty air to go through your scrubber.

That and if its blowing on packed carbon it would seem to Crete stress on the internals of the fan and the duct. That duct is kind of thin and 400+cfm that has a barrier on it just doesnt seem smart to me when its just as easy to install it the way it works best. Its not like the plants will be taller than the light.. the filter would likely be thinner or as thick as your hood. I forget what like op is using though but even a led panel isn't THAT much thinner than a filter.

You need the filter inside the tent. The fan should suck the smell through the filter then exhaust or it won't work near as well. Room inside the tent doesnt mean much when the feds kick your door in cause someone smells some sticky and reports you.
YEP. Pull air through your filter, don't push air into your filter.

So I have more room in my tent. This way I can put the filter outside the tent and have more room for my babies. My hvac friend said its less effeciant but will still work but you need a stronger fan (to actually push the air through the carbon) and it saves some space.
Your tent is 63" tall. Attaching your filter to the frame of your tent up top still leaves you a good 50" of growing height. You planning on growing plants taller than 4'? How many 4' plants you planning on growing in a 3x3 footprint?

Ok well there was some miscomunication here. But I wont go into that as I agree with everyone here as its more efficient to defend smell by pulling through the filter. WDIK I went to go try and hang the filter inside my smaller tent and remembered the problem I have. The placement of the duct exhuast is right where the filter would hang so it makes it impossible (Unless i buy a smaller filter) to allow for room to use the ducting. With the new filter in my larger tent I will have the filter on the inside and sucking it through.

I just wanted to make the point that it is VERY possible, yet less efficient, to have the filter on the outside of the tent. NEVER did i say was it the IDEAL set up, just a set up that some of us has to run . Thanks for all the responses guys. May everyones grows be great!
