Couple Questions about my first outdoor attempt

Ok first right off the top id like to let you know that i live in Northern Ontario... which as you may know doesn't have the sunniest and warmest summers. Ive heard of lots of successful grows around here and even talked to some of the people who have done them. Ive been on the internet for about the whole freaking winter researching this stuff but i still have a few questions that id like to get answered.

So while talking to one of these people who has done it here before they mentioned to me that i should start them indoors for around 2 months ... but its getting close to planting time so i only have about a month and a bit to start em.

I went out and bought 2 Flouresent light fixtures and got "Plant Bulbs" according to the packaging. My first question is weather this set up will even work. So basically i have:

2 Fixtures (Holds 2 bulbs Each)
4 Bulbs (40 Watt) Plant/Aquarium rated according to package
Moded up Computer fan to bring air into the closet
Another larger fan to circulate air
And reflective mylar

I was planning to start them this weekend after i get the soil from the store which would leave me around 1 month and a week till the approximate last frost.

I really just wanted input on this set up since i don't wanna go wasting the seeds i ordered if it was gonna end up not working.

Another possibly stupid question (sorry if this sounds stupid but....) If i started my plants with the setup above for about a month then hardened them off for a week or so and transplanted them into the ground.... would the change in lighting period start them into flowering since i was probably planning to throw them on 24 hours a day. If you got better lighting times then please share since ive never really done alot of research into the subject of indoor growing.

It sounds like you have done your research,your set up sounds fine.Just keep your lights right at the tops of your plants,flouros will not burn them.
Do not run your lights 24/7,your plants need the dark for growth.I live in the middle of the USA and we have daylight from around 6 am-7:30 pm.I would not run your lights any longer than what you have daylight now.If you run them 24/7,when you set them out it might throw them into bud.

You might want to wait for your transplant. The soil in the containers heats up fast and promotes rapid root growth. The cold ground, will slow the growth until the end of spring and the warmer soil temps. Large 1gallon plus containers will hold until the ground warms up.

how many do you think i could start with this amount of lights??

I had basically the same set up and used one of those domed start trays u can get them at walmart or lowes etc., they had 72 peat pellets in them and it has worked great! only thing is, and I know someone already said fluorescents wouldn't burn your plants, but one of my fixtures was identical to yours (2 bulb fixture w/ plant/aquarium bulbs in it) and once my plants got tall enough to touch it, they started to burn/wilt at the tops, so u should probably look int low stress training (LST) which is where u tie the plants down and train them to grow bent over basically. Then when they straighten up you just tie it down a 2nd time, then a 3rd, etc. this allowed for more room in my grow space and kept the plants from touching the lights. Hope some/any of this helps.
