Cracked a stem, branches dying even after cutback below damage....what to do?

Hey guys! Just another newbie, trying to be self-supplying. I'm running my second grow now and am trying the SCROG method with 1 plant in a 2x4 under 5 cxb3590 LEDs. When I put my plant uinder the screen I put it a bit low and ended up cracking one of my branches at a node. I taped it up and hoped it would heal.....after it was apparent it was just slowly dying I chopped everything just below where it had split. After the chop, stuff below that started dying.....im wondering if maybe my girl got some kind of infection/disease with the open wound.

if it was me i would cut it back further down. use sterilised scissors and get something to clean the wound up afterwards. there are products at your local garden supply store.

also when you cut back cut about an inch above a node. if you cut too close to a node it can cause problems

I agree on cutting it down and leaving about a 1/2 inch nub. I have had stems break and plants split in half etc..but mj is super resilient and almost always bounces back with vigor. I doubt that you have anything worth seriously stressing over. Good luck!

Just curious what kind of problems you mean? Problems with the node itself or the growth from it?

when I break the skin I just leave it be, you'd be surprised how resilient these gals can be

I think it's more just a buffer. If you cut it off and leave a nub the nub naturally dies back from the node. The idea is if you get an infection in the cut the nub dies back isolating the infection before it gets back to the next node causing more damage.

Just a safety precaution I think. I don't know I studied horticulture after high school and learnt a lot of little things like that but I guess I was too stoned to actually remember why they were important etc hahahah.

I would normally do the same. It just seems like he may already have an infection of some sort so I thought it might be best to take extra precautions.

I'm no expert by any means just throwing out what I would do in that situation

I'm no expert either, I was just throwing it out for future reference or anyone else who may just be searching for a what do I do and finding this post, if I had already cut it off and was in the ops boat I'd do just what you said to as well
