craptacular waste of money

In southern california the money doesn't stretch very far. You add in a child with autism or something out of the budget occurs and you are hurting badly so there's that potential explanation too.
Point taken regarding the autism etc. I did live in the Bay Area when I was in the military, but did fine. I guess it also depends on whether you have on base housing or not because now that I think of it, the money stretched farther when I lived on base and didn't get BAH than it did when I lived off base and got BAH. $1200 for an 800sq ft apartment. A lot of times I talk after thinking for just a few minutes, but when I think more about it I begin to disagree with my original assumption.

I still don't think it is any fault other than their own that they can't pay their bills. Autism or not... healthcare is free and there are probably other subsidies that I don't know about that the military offers. I think there was even a loan system that the air force set up for emergencies; can't remember what it was called.

hell no. that way i see it is that the moon is still an open frontier. so f'in what if our flag is up there. until it actually starts being colonized no one has any right to sell any of it. and if so, then shit i will sell you some deeds to some top quality crater front mountain property on the earth facing sunny side of the moon. let me just get the deeds out of my trunk first.
As I said it will Eventualy have a pricetag put on it.So let me know when you have those deeds in hand,I might be able to afford them in about say ,,,never.I agree that no one has the right to sell any of it nor should there be any rights to it imo,but it is going to happen sooner or later.

That's why I hate Keynesian model economic BS. Basically everything is relying on the will and the ability of the middle and working classes to spend, spend, spend. It's unsustainable as we have seen. As soon as the buying starts to slow down... everything begins to crumble. There is only so much potential for growth after all. The reason Keynesian economics is the only accepted theory/model in this country is because it benefits the wealthy and the business owners (at the expense of everyone else). Money and wealth DO NOT trickle down. When you mix Reaganesque Supply-Side economics with the Keynesian model... it's disaster waiting to happen unless something changes.

"Read my lips, no new taxes!" Remember that one? Well, he ran with supply-side economics even when he opposed it as a presidential candidate; he only said it would work when he had the chance of being selected as VP. So, he ran with it until it ran into the ground then he HAD to raise taxes and create new ones. Hence one of the main reasons he was not reelected.

We have to start saving and living responsibly or we are all doomed; It's not just our finances that are at risk, but our freedom.

I made GOOD money when I was in. I know a lot of people while I was in that lived beyond their means. They didn't need the motorcycle in addition to the two vehicles, the two computers, all the nights clubbing and eating out. Maybe it's their own doing and you shouldn't feel sorry for them.
As a Army Spec4 in 1970, dodging bullets in Vietnam, I was making about $350 a month.........boy the military has changed!......

Well, I also grew up poor as shit! So it seemed like good money to me. Being able to buy clothes when I needed and to eat out once in a while seemed like quite the luxury. If you came into the military from a well off family, the fall through the social classes would probably hurt quite a bit. Regardless of all that, you can live fairly comfortably on what they were paying me at the time.

I think I got about $1200 a month... or was that twice a month.... hell I can't remember it's been 6 years ago and I try to block those years from my memory.

It hasn't changed in my opinion. I'm still out there weekly. The medical care maybe free to the military member but not completely free for dependents. I thought you had dependents after you got out? So that might make a difference there. Then you have the entire TriCare vs TriCare PPO crap where they use denial of service for cost keeping so the kids are forced onto the economy for their dependents. I could just go on and on.

It is too late. The Us has become a welfare/giveme country that cannot sustain itself. Consumerism built us up and it killed us. People are already hurting. There is no way they can (even if they wanted to) undo the damage. People are not going to be willing to live like paupers and pay everything they make to repay the money the banks stole and charged back to the people.

We have stopped spending on infrastructure because of the deficits. Our infrastructure has been graded a D- by top engineers. At some point those roosters are going to come home ot roost. We have artificially inflated the costs of everything for the pork barrels that we will not ba able to afford to rebuild big shit when it finally breaks. Bridges do not cost $2 billion to build, but that is what they have run them up to. I bet I could build the same bridge for $500 million..... or less. Govt waste and kickbacks have killed us. Greed IS the devil.

And the inflation.... OH! the inflation.

And I love this... I'll share since we are on the topic. 4:20 in the video below also reminds me of the Saudi Stockmarket crash.... I think it was Saudi Arabia anyway.

Also, Clayton... I highly suggest you read the book or watch the film "Collapse".

Border Patrol union 'concerned' by manpower expansion in immigration bill

$38 Billion spending Bill

http://news.yahoo.com/border-patrol-union--concerned--by-manpower-expansion-in-immigration-reform-bill-151817136.html

"We're not your ordinary union," said Shawn Moran, the National Border Patrol Council's spokesman. "We really do appreciate the intent of Sens. Hoeven and Corker with the increase in manpower. We just think it can be done better and, frankly, cheaper."

A hiring surge between 2006 and 2008 led to "hurried background checks and loosened hiring standards," according to a Los Angeles Times investigation published in 2011. Between October 2004 and 2011, 132 customs officials were indicted on corruption or corruption-related charges. Customs and Border Protection employees were arrested more than 2,000 times between 2004 and 2012.

Would experiencing a day in the life of a cow make you less likely to eat meat? How would chopping down a tree affect your paper usage? These are questions that the National Science Foundation awarded universities $748,000 dollars to use virtual reality to answer.
I think more would be gained if that money went for something like........how does it feel to be the unemployed father of 3 who is about to be forclosed on.....
