true, a solid piece of wood will last much longer underground than many thin sheets glued together.
but the posts in pole buildings DO rot.

everyone's entitled to their opinion. i trust my own since i do it for a living. if you could do plywood then everyone's basement would be made out of it. i've never been in a basement made out of plywood.
slimj.....Im not sure what you mean as basements can not have wood only subterrainean walls as it will not pass code, will not last, will fail, and can not be made structurally strong enough. Yes inside you finish basements in wood but no earth to material contact. Anyone who would say you can have a wood only subterrainiean foundation or footer should never be hired to buid for you as they are clueless.
preciselyThey rot in about 15-20 years.
If you put just a treat post in soil it will rot.
Ummm if you do this for a living you've surly heard of wooded basement walls. It's called permanent wood foundation. We use plywood all the time, that's why I chimed in on this post.
Testing has shown it buried for 35 years with slight rot. I doubt this guy is going to have his box buried for more than a few years.
if you curious about expanding your mind on engineered wood products I would be glad to send you some great information,
